First step of attaching this to the violin asks that you measure the wing slot on your bridge with a Vernier Caliper. These are extremely hard to come by and expensive and music shops I went to did not know what I was talking about. Knowing/having a technician of some sort is definitely necessary. Also hard to install in the wing slot, but once in, works great.

I was surprised to find out that this pick up will not function straight into a PA system or Direct box. we finally got it hooked up and ran it through an acoustic guitar amp, then into the PA. It worked then, but without a decent amount of volume. Sounds good though, just not great.

Is it possible to install and uninstall this pickup within say five minutes with only simple tools I could keep in my case? And would mounting/unmounting it repeatedly be likely to damage either the instrument or the pickup?
Over time it will wear into the instrument, but it would be fairly easy to add and remove it.
