Friedman

collapse expand iconDescription

The Friedman BE-OD Deluxe, a premium overdrive pedal from the experts at Friedman Amplification. Building on the success of the original BE-OD, the Deluxe version provides an even wider palette of overdriven tones and greater tonal control in a stylish, stage-ready package. With separate drive circuits for clean and overdriven tones—each with its own 3-band EQ—the BE-OD Deluxe lets guitarists craft two distinct overdrive sounds and toggle between them with the stomp of a footswitch.

Dual Overdrive Channels With Independent Controls

The BE-OD Deluxe features two separate overdrive channels, each with its own Drive, Tone and Level controls. Channel 1 produces a range of medium-gain overdrive tones, from a mellow bluesy breakup to a throaty classic rock crunch. Channel 2 generates higher-gain overdrive tones, spanning chunky hard rock distortion to a saturated lead tone. With independent controls for each channel, guitarists can sculpt two different overdrive voices to suit any musical style or song.

3-Band EQ Provides Tonal Flexibility

Each overdrive channel on the BE-OD Deluxe includes dedicated bass, midrange and treble controls, allowing for precise tonal shaping. The 3-band EQ, combined with the Drive and Level knobs, provides a wide range of overdrive tones—from warm and bassy to aggressive and mid-focused. With the ability to boost or cut each frequency range on both channels, guitarists can craft overdrive tones that complement any guitar and amp setup.

Rugged Design Ready for the Stage

The BE-OD Deluxe features a durable, stage-ready design with premium components throughout. Its rugged aluminum housing contains high quality pots, switches, jacks and circuitry built to withstand the rigors of live performance. Large, textured knobs provide a non-slip grip, even in the heat of a performance, while soft-touch footswitches engage each overdrive channel with an audible click. With superior construction and an eye-catching appearance, the BE-OD Deluxe makes a great addition to any pedalboard.

I used this as my daily driver with a Friedman JJ Jr for more than 2 years. This pedal is so good. The crunch is beautiful. Having the two distortions side by side is a very handy feature. Especially since they sound nearly identical, but one just has more gain. Get this pedal, you won't regret it. It loves Marshall-style amps. I put this through my Friedman and a Marshall JVM with sparkling results!

High quality parts and excellent crunchy tones. The noise floor is pretty low considering the amount of gain and distortion this pedal puts out. Similar to Friedman's high gain amp designs in so that the amount of gain on tap is almost unnecessary (almost lol.) You'll find swaths of thick overdrive on tap before you max out the gain knob. It sounds as if Friedman was attempting to get an 80's modded Marshall sound in a box. It's got an upper mid / treble sizzle that those amps are known for. It's a 2 channel design. 1 side responds like a amp without mods and the other channel sounds like the modded channel with extra gain stages and a tighter bottom end. Anyway that's how I hear it. The tight switch makes the bottom end, well, tighter and Is more noticeable at higher gain settings. If you are searching for 80's and 90's metal, rock, glam rock, and grunge this could be your go to pedal. I slam the front end with a screamer type circuit for even more harmonics and that violin singing lead sound. It's a really good pedal.

I was looking for another 3 channel amp because I was disappointed in my brand new Marshall DSL40CR because the modes in the first channel are not well balanced at all and they are on the same controls for that channel. I thought the 2 master volumes would compensate for that but not the way I wanted them to. So I put this Friedman pedal in front of my Blues Junior and OMG! I now have awesome fender cleans with spring reverb and now I have killer Brown Eye Crunch and with the BE Deluxe I also have a 2nd OD channel that I can boost the volume and gain a bit more and get a boosted lead tone. Instant 3 channel amp! What more could you ask for! Very good Friedman tone coming out of this amp it truly captures the BE Sound! I could not be more pleased and I run mine at 18vdc and the headroom is killer! They even include a series voltage doubler for use with your power supply to give you the 18vdc option. BUY THIS PEDAL!

Bought this based on reviews and bit of blind faith that turning down the internal gain knobs would reign in the gain for more classic rock level of drive. I've been trying to simplify my live rig and move towards a pedal platform instead of amp with effects loop cable runs. So far this pedal sounds fantastic to me. I put an OCD in front set as a boost with a low drive and now have a very versatile range of gained tones. From mild to super gainy singing lead. Sounds great going into the board driveig a Joyo American sound and my little Ampeg combo. It's giving my workhorse Mark V 35 red channel a real run for the money as well (with less tweeking) I'll write a follow up if my opinion changes, but so far it's a very impressive sounding pedal with enough tone knobs to please this Mesa user.
