Fryette Power Station Demo by Joe Gamble

Description
The Fryette PS-2A Power Station Integrated Reactance Amplifier is a revolutionary product that provides guitarists an easy way to adjust volume without compromising tone. With 50 watts of all-tube power, this lightweight amp offers a variety of sonic options for any playing situation. The Power Station's innovative design preserves the natural sound of your amplifier at any volume—from roaring to whisper-quiet—and its versatile functionality gives new life to your existing gear. The Power Station is a must-have for guitarists wanting ultimate control over their tone.
Preserve Tone at Any Volume
Unlike conventional attenuators that can strip tone at lower volumes, the Power Station uses integrated reactance technology to provide a consistent sound across all volume levels. You'll enjoy rich, dynamic tone whether you're cranking the amp or playing at hushed levels.
Enhance Your Existing Gear
The Power Station isn't just an attenuator—it's also a tube power booster that can transform any preamp, pedal or modeling amp into a gig-ready rig. Crank your mini amp to get power tube distortion, then use the Power Station to adjust overall volume without changing the tone. You can also use the Power Station as a power amp for amp-less setups or as a monitor power amp for direct modeling to a PA system.
Flexible Connectivity and Controls
With selectable 2/4, 8 and 16 ohm impedances for your amp and cabinet, the Power Station ensures safe and optimized performance for your equipment. An effects loop, line out and XLR out provide connections for recording, processing or silent playing. Intuitive controls for volume, presence, depth and EQ shaping give you total command over your tone.
Rugged and Ready to Perform
Despite its advanced design, the Power Station is simple to operate and built to withstand the demands of performance use. Its all-steel chassis and high-quality components are engineered for reliability and longevity. Compact and lightweight, the Power Station can sit atop an amp head or combo, or fit into a desktop setup.

It was a bit pricey but it works real good.
It took me a while to get the hang of it. I bought it to contain my stage volume of my Fender Vibroverb. The Power Station 2 has a small button on front to change the input gain to it. Make sure to press it in for hi-powered amps. Then adjust the PS-2 to sound like your amp at the same volume. Then on stage, crank you amp volume on up. Then turn down the PS-2 volume to desired level. Then adjust PS-2 presence and depth knob and switches to taste. Works great for small to mid size venues. Works fine with stomp boxes as well. Does it sounds as good as a Vibroverb cranked on 10? No, definitely not, but it's pretty close and sounds a lot better than just stomp boxes and the amp volume on 3.

Not all it's cracked up to be
I purchased this unit to boost a small amp and to attenuate a larger amp. The additional appeal was the effects loop which neither of the amps had. It just didn't sound good in either case. Very disappointed considering the price tag. It was ultimately returned.

Do not listen to the complainers. This products is great. My main amp is an SLO and I don't gig anymore so I need to play at a lower volume in my home studio. This works and is easy to dial in. The effects loop is a bonus and much needed for anyone with an original SLO or Marshall with no loop. I waited for two months on backorder so be patient.

Really nice! I'm using it to tame the volume of a Fender Supersonic. I can set the amp to a sweet spot and then "turn it down". It keeps the pretty much the same sound character and feel. I love it on the clean deluxe reverb side of the supersonic with the ss volume around 5-6. I can run it quiet enough for practice at home without bothering anyone. Can do the same with both gain channels cranked and the master halfway up too :-) I haven't tried the post power stage effects loop yet but plan to put "wet" effects from my Helix there. Also, want to try the power station as a clean amp with the Helix straight into it! Probably some 4C stuff too. I think it's totally worth the money! Every time I use it with the supersonic cranked I get a big grin on my face and no one is calling the cops :-)

The PS2 has given me so much more tonal options. I have several plexi non master volume amps without effect loops. I now have the ability to run time based effects through the PS2 loop. The PS2 allows me to run my amp volume in the sweet spot then control the loudness for the situation. I have an old Line 6 podxt pro rack unit that was normally run through studio monitors. Using the PS2 power amp line in I can run a guitar speaker cab with the podxt pro. I find the reactive load attenuation isn't completely transparent however the eq abilities allow me to dial back in the frequencies. In my opinion the amp sounds like my amp with a slight loss of high end that can be compensated for with the PS2 eq or the amps eq. I decided on this fifty watt version because I have more speaker cabs under hundred watts. Excellent product would recommend.
Every bit as good as I was hoping for

I use my Power Station II as both an attenuator and also to provide an FX loop for amps that don't have one. It excels in both functions, but this is only a fraction of what it can do. I am finally able get the guitar tones I've heard on my recorded cd's because now I can hear the sound of my cranked Marshall or Mesa amp at a sound level that doesn't get anyone else upset! Bear in mind that I'm not talking about whisper volume here, but more like a loud conversation or TV, since I don't think anything sounds good at whisper volumes. I live in a town house and play in my basement and no complaints. You can, however, select any output volume you like (unlike incremental attenuators). The unit is very transparent and lots of EQ adjustment is available if you want. Overall I think this is one of the very best attenuators available and a good bang for the buck.
Does a great job!!

I love the concept of this product, However, I have a stereo rig where one side leaves the "right" side of my last stereo effect pedal and goes to the effects loop return in my amp head - driving a speaker cab with the power amp from the amp head (Mesa Boogie Mark V 25); while the "left" runs to a carvin power amp that drives another speaker cab. Would the Fryette PS2 power station not be of value given my amp has a "master volume" concept? Or, would I still benefit by being able to turn my amp up to a higher volume? If so, how would it need to be set up to achieve a stereo setup?
Sure it would help. Master volume implies gain. Turning up a gain drives your preamp tubes. Turning up a master volume drives your power tubessubmitted4 years ago

What all is included? Does a separate power supply need to be purchased? Do the speaker cables and female-to-female coupler needed to patch this unit to the amp head and speaker come included or do they need to be purchased separately? Thanks! --Matt
It's AC powered. No accessories are included
