Been playing for many years and for this review, everything is used in my home studio, not on the road, and I used "1" only per surface. I have Moon Gels (tacky), Drum Dots (lightly tacky), and Vater Buzz Kill (super tacky). I bought them all based on their reputation, and a desire to reduce overtones, and you can use 1 or many on each surface. I like to experiment, and all are low priced enough for that. I also use the Remo-O's brand dampening rings. All these products have features that give different end results to your sound. I bought these Gibraltar Tuning Dots for those same reasons, and #1, I want to say they have good tonal attributes and I'm happy with my purchase. #2, they're different than the above "gels" and "O's" in sound and use. These result in the lowest amount of noticeable change in tone or reduction of ring, especially to the naked ear. But that's OK if you still want some overtones to come thru. I used my phone to record myself and the difference was much clearer listening back and the end result was more musical than the above products. Except for the "O's", I tried all these products on my ride cymbal as well. I won't put any of them on for more than a few songs as I'm afraid of any residue from any of them, but for that amount of time, none of them did any harm, including the TD's. But all of them had really bad tone, EXCEPT the Tuning Dots! The TD muted the ride cymbal's natural overtones, but in a very musical way They reduce wash and result in more ping, with more stick definition than shimmer, and give lower volume but aren't for silencing. Also they give different tones when placed on different locations on the cymbal, allowing cheap or quick versatility and may be best for recording 1 ride cymbal for different styles or sounds. The adhesive backing sticks really well on all surfaces and the TD won't come off when hit or on its own, but it's aggressive so be careful if removal is important. Subtle reduction is OK-
