Great hardware. Struggle for deep toms.
This is a great piece of hardware. With that said, if you have deep toms (11 piece w/ 15"x16" biggest tom), this rack is a struggle if you have short tom holder arms and/or large bass druns (24"). I could only squeeze in 5 toms (8/10/12/13/14) on top. Will need a wing for the 15".

not enough room
i own a tama double bass set and i have no intention of hanging my toms on it but however i have a splash, two thin crashes, and a ride i like to hang my ride over my flor toms and this gives you no room without buying an extention and i cant find any other.

I use this in my home but could easily use for travel. I am impressed with the stability given all that I have hanging on it!! Very rugged yet lightweight.
Good piece of gear

I purchased this item for my husband for a birthday present. I was going to surprise him by setting up the rack, but had absolutely NO IDEA how to, because there were no assembly instructions included. Had to let the cat out of the bag and he had to put it together himself.

I have three floor toms and five rack toms, three bass drums and two snares. While I have no interest of putting all of these pieces together in a single kit, I hypothetically could with my Gibraltar double bass rack. I usually use a standard eight piece, although I'm currently using a two up/two down setup. The rack allows me to place what I want where I want without sacrificing stability. It is easy to adjust and I threw it together in about five minutes, and got it set up to my liking in about forty minutes. And with all of the memory locks it comes with, once it's set up and ready to go, putting it back the same way is a breeze. They also prevent anything from slipping. Before I bought this, I had purchased a Gibraltar "Super Spanner System," which was a long curved bar and six clamps. With a few more purchases under a hundred dollars, I can now use that bar as a side extension, and I have an extra six clamps around. These I use to mount my cymbals and accents. It is easy to assemble and it looks awesome. I used to use the mounts in my bass drums, but I've never been able to get my toms in a really comfortable spot using those and the tom arms. This lets me place them at whatever angle, height and distance I want them, and they are completely independent from my kicks now. This is the perfect thing to buy if you're looking for a rack and have a lot to put on it. For $300 I got my most comfortable drum setup so far.

I own an 8-piece Tama set (obviously with 2 bass drums) and this rack has accommodated pretty much everything I can throw (or hang) on it. It is well-constructed and extremely sturdy; no wobbling or movement with everything attached to it. Currently I have 3 toms (8", 10" and 12"), 3 crashes, a splash and a china attached to the rack. Out of personal preference I attached a side piece to it to hold my ride (I prefer my ride low and off to the right), but it could easily fit on the 850DBL with no problem. As someone else pointed out, the lack of multi-clamps might be an issue for some, but that is easily remedied since Gibraltar sells individual multi-clamps. If there was one thing I wish they WOULD have done was to include the cymbal boom attachments (SC-RBA) which free up space on the rack; they attach to the vertical bars and you can just slip a cymbal boom arm down into it. As I owned a separate Gibraltar rack that had them already I used them on the 850DBL and believe me when I say that it is a HUGE help in freeing up more space for other things, such as splashes and whatnot. But that is a minor nit. If you're a recording or touring semi-pro with a decent-size kit this is the rack for you; it's easy to set up and break down (thank goodness for memory locks!), saves you space by eliminating a ton of stands, and is sturdy enough to get you through shows and sessions with no problem.
