Classic Construction

Sleek beveled edges and two sharp cutaways are the prominent body features of the 1963 Les Paul SG Custom. The lightweight mahogany tonewood used matches the exact construction methods and contours of those original builds. This design is rounded off with a classic Lightning Bar wraparound tailpiece.    

Period-Accurate Neck

This throwback to the 1963 Gibson SG Special will delight fans of vintage electric guitar for its spot-on look and feel. Small dot inlays and vintage-replica parts adorn a smooth Indian rosewood fingerboard. The Medium C neck profile allows for hours of playing without hand fatigue.    

Vintage P90 Pickups

Gibson’s legendary P90 single-coil pickups were integral to the sound of early rock and blues music. First introduced in the 1950s, these raw, powerful single coils lend timeless tone to the SG Special. They’re also fully wax potted to remove unwanted vibration.    

Authentically Aged Finish

Tom Murphy was instrumental in setting up the Gibson Custom Shop. For the last 25 years, he’s perfected the art and science of aging instruments. Murphy’s team gives this ES-335 a very lightly aged finish—only the lightest touches are utilized. You’ll see unique lacquer checking with minimal playing wear.  The Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1963 SG Special Reissue comes with a certificate of authenticity and an aged brown and pink Lifton reissue 5-latch hard case.
