collapse expand iconDescription

This Alex Acuna Signature Special-Edition cajon was beautifully handcrafted in Peru from Peruvian Mohena with artisan inlays. Alex's favorite flamenco model, this cajon has wires that provide the perfect amount of buzz and resonance—the cajon is excellent for traditional flamenco or for modern applications.

This cajon comes with a free carrying bag.

Born in Pativilca, Peru, Acuna played in local bands from the age of ten, and moved to Lima as a teenager. At the age of 18, he joined the band of Perez Prado, and in 1967, he moved to Puerto Rico. In 1974, Acuna moved to Las Vegas, working with artists such as Elvis Presley and Diana Ross, and the following year he joined the jazz fusion group Weather Report, appearing on the albums Black Market and Heavy Weather. Acuna left Weather Report in 1978, and became a session musician in California, recording and playing live with (amongst many others): Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald, Jim Walker, Chick Corea, Whitney Houston, Plácido Domingo, Phil Keaggy, Sergeant Petter, Sam Phillips, former Weather Report bandmates Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock, as well as Carlos Santana, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Beck, Roberta Flack, U2 and Al Jarreau.

This Acuna Cajon is beautiful in both sound and looks! Guests during parties and around the fire pit are blown away by the gathering of the tribes! Guitars, cajon, voices, and other percussion instruments add to the experience of playing this fine instrument. The case makes it easy to transport with protective padding making carrying to venues a breeze. It's easy to bring to gigs and other parties. Highly recommend!

I researched canons online for about a year before making this purchase. Based on the reviews and the many videos I watched of it being demoed, I decided to bite the bullet and drop a little extra money. I have only been playing the cajon for a little over a year and my first cajon was a low-end Meinl (I paid $120 for it). The Acura literally makes it sound like a children's toy. Mind you, meinlky does have some great sounding cajon, but the one I had simply can not compare to the Acura. The bass and snare tones are completely distinct from one another and the increased width allows for increased varioation in your snare tones. The quality of all the different tones is remarkable and it seems as if no matter where you strike it, you get a full, rich sound. I was fairly quickly convinced after playing in the store], but when I got it back to the practice room and mic'd it up for rehearsal. OH. MY. GOODNESS. And we have a fairly low-end PA system. Just two mains and a monitor through one 8 channel board. But seriously, it instantly changed the sound of our band and made me a better cajon player. I know that may seem odd, but think about it. If you are playing on a sub-par instrument that refuses to emit warm tones no matter where you strike it, and it has minimal variation in tone; then, you switch to playing a studio quality instrument that produces full, rich, distinctive tones regardless of where you hit it, you are bound to sound better. The ability to easily create distinct tones instantly opens up what you are able to do. The full bass tone also makes it easier to set the pocket and maintain it throughout the song. If it sounds like I am going over board, I am. This thing is just an incredible musical instrument. And oh yea, the pictures don't do it justice either. It is much prettier in person. Glossy finish and seems to not pick up oil from handling it hardly at all. Very sturdy, thick Peruvian wood. Just buy it, for real. You won't regret it.

My first cajon was a different brand and I fought with it right out of the gate and ever since. Just bought this one and out of the box, it had exceptional sound, quality and I loved it. Such a better drum that the cheaper on that I had...it's way worth it.

  • Great sounding and beautiful

My first and only cajon, but the best sound of those I've tried, especially the bass; and there's not too much snare. Beautiful, of course, living room rather than sidewalk styled. Be able to really spread those legs though if you want to play the side corners, it has an extra 2" in width (good base, remember). A more rearward sit-back helps. I have long legs so was hoping it really was 20" high, but it's a bit less than 19".
