Gretsch Guitars

collapse expand iconDescription

The Gretsch G9230 Bobtail Acoustic-Electric Resonator marks the return of resonators to the Gretsch family. It has the square neck that's preferable for bluegrass. A round-neck version, which is better for blues-based music, is also available (please see model G9220, our sku# L01066).

The G9230 features a beautifully-bound mahogany body with traditional-style F holes. The heart of this richly resounding guitar is the Gretsch Ampli-Sonic resonator cone, hand-spun in Eastern Europe from nearly 99-percent pure aluminum for fantastic volume and sonic projection. The onboard Fishman Nashville pickup features a split saddle piezo-ceramic pickup designed specifically for spider-style bridges and offers consistent, accurate sound reproduction for every performance.

Gretsch is proud to take players on a musical journey through nearly a century of great Gretsch history by introducing its Roots Collection of acoustic instruments. This exciting family of banjos, mandolins, resonator guitars, ukuleles and Rancher acoustic guitars feature classically authentic Gretsch designs that transport players to a bygone era well before the company made its acclaimed 1950s entry into the electric guitar world.

this is a very good instrument. Has great sustain and volume. Good for blues and country which is what i use it for. Pickup works good but you need to eq it on your amp. Love the wide nut. Nothing really bad to say about it. Very adequate for any level.

Please explain the differences I would consider in buying either a "square neck" or round neck. I would not play this lying flat on my lap, but hold it the normal way like a guitar.

The basic difference between a Square neck versus Round neck resonator: Square-necked resonator guitars are set up with a high nut to be played with a bar or a slide, only in lap-style. Round-necks are set up for regular fretting or slide-playing in the normal. So, it sounds like you would want a round neck.
