collapse expand iconDescription

The Groove Tubes GT-12AY7 Select Preamp Tube delivers outstanding and consistent performance when mixing and matching in order to get a signature tone from your amp. The 12AY7 is a low-gain tube great for harp or blues where softer, more compressed distortion at lower volumes is desired. It can also sub for a 12AX7 to lower gain and produce a warmer tone.

if buying to "tame" a Blues Deluxe Reissue try instead to use the amplifiers knobs and buttons along with your instrument's knobs. This did reduce gain but it was not ideal based on my ears. I put the 12AX7 back in and now enjoy the amplifier just fine. Stop reading forums.

  • Just what my Marshall DSL20HR needed in V1

This single tube in preamp position V1 turned my fizzy, too much gain Marshall DSL20 head in to just what I was looking for. The gain is still meaty and has great harmonics but it now sounds much more like a hot-rodded JCM800 or Jubilee to me. I tried a half dozen recommended preamp tubes first but this one did the trick. It was too much of a gain reduction for my DSL40CR however. I think that amp would benefit from a higher output version of this tube. It may be due to the DSL40 having more channel voices. The green OD channel on it already offers a reduced gain dirty channel. But for Marshall DSL amps without that feature, I recommend you try this tube.

I added this in the V1 slot to get a better sound with less gain in my Fender Blues Deluxe reissue. it did help, but not as much as I had hoped. i think the sound is good, but it is still very base heavey and the highs can be a bit much. next upgrade will be the speaker. i did however find that put using input 2 to plug into, that actually made a world of difference. i really love the tone and volume levels i am getting now.
