Guild M-120 Westerly Collection Concert Acoustic Guitar Natural

I wanted a warm, mellow, small sized guitar and this checked all of the boxes. The build quality is amazing, there's no blemish on it. This guitar was everything I hoped for.

Guild gets a lot of things right with the M120. There's incredible attention to detail in the fret dressings, fit and finish and even the nut was cut exceptionally well. They get right everything someone review the guitar going down the check-list could check off as "perfect" or "near perfect" except for a few critical things. The most critical being tone. The M120 stays in tune exceptionally well and has great intonation up the neck. You will not zero scratchy frets on this guitar. It punches above its price for these sort of details, but... it just sounds awful. I don't know what the problem is but I suspect its the top bracing. Most of guitars tone comes from the top, specifically how much movement the top is allowed to have. The bracing is there to keep the top from collapsing and to help shape the tone. The m120 has very short, fat braces. I would classify it as the most overbuilt guitar I've owned and it's muffled tone carries that weight in what you hear from it. The thick polyurethane finish isn't doing it any favors here either. The Guild M120 sounds very cheap as a result, yet it plays like a very expensive instrument. For this reason it's the most annoying instrument in my small collection. I can not recommend this guitar.

This guitar is so beautiful, awesome playability right out of the box.

After watching quite a few reviews of small body mohagany bodied guitars, i chose the M-120. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. Love the smaller size. Great tone. Set-up was great. Excellent gig bag is a bonus.
