Having played drums for 25 years, I figured it was time to finally learn to play bass. I purchased an instructional DVD, but that was a hassle since it was very difficult to read the music off the screen, and the user was forced to play at the pace of the DVD. The Hal Leonard Electric Bass Method book/CD solved these problems. The large instructional book starts with elementary topics such as naming the parts of the bass and tuning. It also starts off with the basics of reading musical notation, which would make it helpful for those who play but want to learn to read music also. With 3 CDs and 144 pages, this will keep the beginner busy for quite some time.

  • solid instruction.

it is very good for the novice player because it takes you step by step. the cd is a good tool for playing along with a real band while the exercises strenghtens your reading skill on the staff not tab. overall everyone could take something from it. i am a guitarist for 20 years and recently have gotten calls for bass work that is why i am adding this to my repertoire.
