I am someone that likes to learn multiple instruments, so my first time is not the same as a complete beginner to music. I would consider myself barely passed a beginner skill wise but, classically trained in piano. With that all said: First time picking up an ukulele along with this book. I'm only into the early stages, but the book is trying to build up a knowledge base smoothly, adding cords and alt fretting, strumming, fingerstyle, techniques, and more with daily, bite sized lessons. The weekly rotation of lessons builds upon itself, but isn't being boring with exercises. It tries to make sure you're making music while learning, so that it means something. For instance, if it is teaching you a lick to use, it will tell you the genre, if applicable or suggest how to use it. There are still scale exercises though. Fair warning. Strong tool for an absolute beginner(me) so far. Whole-heartedly recommend.

I am a middle age woman who has almost no music background. I read reviews on this book from other sources and decided to buy it. As a brand new beginner to the ukulele I feel this book is a bit advanced for me. I have had to research quite a bit of terminology and view you-tube demonstrations to get through the first week of workouts. I have remained on the first week for several weeks. I am a self-learner and trust I will be able to advance to the next week's lessons but not without a little more research and basic practice and guidance from other sources.
