This classic mute is most often used in combination with a plunger mute. My rubber one hasn't arrived yet, but even in combination with my Denis Wick aluminum plunger mute, it's a great match and allows for a lot of expression. On its own, it can serve as a narrow straight mute or practice mute, and as it doesn't color the horn's natural timbre, it is a very versatile mute all around.
