Description
The BTB746 is a 6-string bass featuring an Ash wing body, with a Walnut top/Mahogany back, for a sound that is deep and rich. The 35-in. scale, 5-piece Maple/Jatoba through-neck supports superior tone, and encourages massive sustain. A Jatoba fretboard sports highly-durable Stainless Steel frets, to create a bright, articulate sound, and a “zero” fret provides accurate intonation, while allowing open strings to ring with the same resonance as notes played up the neck.
Electronics include Bartolini BH2 pickups for a tight bottom-end, punchy mid-range, and smooth response. Combined with the Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ, with 3-way mid-frequency switch, the BTB746 contains tonal variations that enhance simple chord work, as well as complex soloing. The Mono-rail V bridge allows for a wide range of adjustment, with each isolated saddle securely locked down to the body for optimum vibration transfer, and minimal sympathetic string interference. D'Addario NYXL strings are installed to expand dynamic range and harmonic response. A high-tech Neutrik locking output jack insures a secure connection, preventing accidental disconnect.

In its price range this thing takes home the belt! I have been a guitar player for over 20 years and having been thrust into a bass role out of necessity I have been focused on bass for the past 5-6 years in a gospel setting. I love my 4 and 5 string jazz basses but I was looking for something to bridge the gap between my guitar and bass experience and almost went with a BTB747 but decided the BTB746 felt absolutely at home in my hands! I must admit my original plan was to save up for a MTD bass, but grew impatient and wanted to start chording and shredding on a 6 string ASAP. I pulled the trigger on one of these 746's and I couldn't be happier. While it is certainly priced as an intermediate level 6 string, it feels and sounds like I should've paid 3x as much for it. After having it Plek'd and setup professionally by 13thStreetGuitars in Huntington Beach, CA, this bass feels like a million bucks. It sounds great, it covers a wide variety of tones for all styles of play. The Bartolini pickups are nice and hot but not noisy at all, and you don't have to work very hard to play fast on it(Once you get a pro setup) I think there are 2 downsides with this bass: 1) Its a bit on the heavy side. You'll need a nice wide & padded strap if you play long sets. However it is balanced so unbelievably well, the neck doesn't dive, it STAYS PUT! 2) One tiny detail which may not even come with every bass is that the frets felt just a tad unfinished and you can feel the edges as you slide up and down the neck, was no big deal for the guys at 13thStreetGuitars to fix. Again, you may not even notice it at all on yours when you get it, because details like that can vary from inspector to inspector when it goes to leave the factory. All in all this bass is a home run for Ibanez. I hope many more players find what they are looking for in these BTB basses!
