Ibanez EWP13DBO Exotic Wood Piccolo Acoustic Guitar Dark Brown Open Pore

Description
With smaller scale instruments continuing to increase in popularity, Ibanez is satisfying players’ demands with the EWP13DBO, a 1/3-size, steel string Piccolo acoustic guitar. From the on-the-go businessperson who needs a guitar that can fit in a plane’s overhead compartment, to the happy wanderer just looking to animate his or her sojourn with a song, the compact travel guitar can be an uplifting addition to any expedition.
Similar in scale to a baritone ukulele (17”), the EWP13DBO sports an EW-style cutaway body. The top, back and sides are made of ovangkol, a wood found in Western Africa and known for its beautiful figuring and purpleheart-like tone. An open pore natural finish allows the body to resonate more freely for improved tone and projection. Other features include an abalone rosette, purpleheart fretboard, bridge and chrome die-cast tuners.
To optimize string tension, intonation, and tone, the EWP13DBO is tuned in the key of A (A, D, G, C, E, A), up a fourth from standard tuning.

Looks way nicer in person. Essentially ukulele profile with 6 steel strings. Translates well sonically. String spacing is snug but adaptable. Good intonation but delicate. Fret ends could use refinement, easily nudged out of tune, minor issues. Everything I hoped for at minimum.
Disappointing

I am an Ibanez fan and own several guitars. I want to expand the family with a travel guitar, so I purchased the Piccolo…. The small scale size makes it difficult to play. Tuning is a constant effort, and the sound and tone is rather muted

Looking to buy a guitar for my 5 & 6 year olds to learn on. I want to buy a nice guitar that they can keep using if they advance or grow up. Meaning I don't want a cheap "toy" guitar they'll discard when they're not children. Saw the EWP13DBO and it looks gorgeous and I think this may be it. It's smaller (so may be easier to learn on), may be cool to play when they're older still, and is relatively inexpensive if they decide to not play any more. Wanting to know if this would be a good fit based on what I'm looking for? Or if there are better candidates out there? Or if steel strings are just too difficult for kids at that age and I need to look for something with nylon strings?
This is a good option, but if you would like a few more you can give us a call at 866-498-7882 and we can get you some more to choose from. This guitar would be a good choice for a child to learn on. It is a good quality guitar at a reasonable price. The steel strings shouldn't be too difficult a child at that age.submitted5 years ago
