Good starter six string bass

Pros: Nice sound Easy to setup and tune Fretboard works for medium sized hands Great look Easy to play Cons: The body is too light, this means that you wind up holding the neck up with your fretting hand Long cut fret wires. The fret wires are cut long enough that you are running your hands over the rough edges every time you perform a slide.

OK for the price

I bought this GSR206 at Guitar Center in Clearwater, FL. because I wanted to try 6 string without spending a lot. It's also rather lite at just over 8 lbs , which I like. The neck,frets and body are very good and the good staff made for a pleasant purchase experience. As usual for an Instrument in this price, some work will be needed. first the strings will have to be replaced ( I put some D'Addario's on it) Minus 1 star for a bad nut. The notch for the E string was cut too deep, so the open E was un-playable. The tech at the store had a compound to fill the notch to the correct height. (thumbs up to him !) Minus another star for a bad bridge. The height adjustment screws were too short, and the tech didn't have any. They are hard to find so on-line may be the only way to get them for some people, so I am Including the specs. It came with M3x8 metric set screws, too short. You will need some M3x10 and some M3x12's.

    I bought this bass for around $400 after playing it in store, and I still don't regret it. It has great tone, and great tuning stability. Overall, this bass doesn't feel cheap, especially if it's your first 6 string. If I had to complain about anything, I'd say the finish is low quality. Paint ships away easily and faded after only a month. Mine also came with the fret wires sticking out quite a bit. All this needs is a little setup, and it plays great.

    It is B to C, as you said. Couldn't you tune the C down a half step for the high B?
