Ibanez

collapse expand iconDescription

Ibanez's PNB14E Parlor acoustic-electric bass guitar proves big tone can come in small packages. This compact bass utilizes a parlor body shape, African mahogany construction and proprietary electronics to deliver full, rich low end in an instrument built for playing anywhere. Guitar Center is thrilled to offer the versatile PNB14E Parlor bass.

Short Scale, Comfortable Feel

The PNB14E Parlor bass's 24.7" scale length provides a familiar feel for guitarists and a user-friendly experience for beginners. The compact body and fretboard make navigating the lower registers a breeze. Despite its small stature, the PNB14E Parlor produces impressively powerful acoustic tone, perfect for intimate performances or casual jam sessions.

Mahogany Body Resonates

The PNB14E Parlor bass's all-mahogany construction, including African mahogany top, back and sides, gives this small-body bass surprisingly full and resonant tone. Its "open pore" satin finish allows the natural texture of the wood to shine through while enhancing acoustic resonance.

Proprietary Electronics Capture Natural Tone

Ibanez's Under Saddle Pickup accurately captures the PNB14E Parlor bass's acoustic tone and pairs with the Ibanez AEQ-SP2 preamp to provide shaping and amplification options. The preamp's easy-to-read digital tuner keeps you in tune, while onboard EQ controls allow you to cut through the mix or fine-tune your tone.

Gorgeous, high quality, fun

Got this for my gf who's been playing bass and wanted a "couch bass" that she could casually grab and sing with. It's definitely a gorgeous instrument and plays and comes set up well, and is loud enough acoustically to practice and sing with in a living room, but we were blown away by the deeper, beautiful sound it made when plugged into an amp (it sounds better than her electric bass when plugged in). The built-in tuner and easy-to-replace 9v battery compartment are also nice touches, as well as the short scale length. I recommend this for practicing unplugged and performing amplified, though you could certainly perform unplugged for a small group of friends (though not sure if it's quite loud enough to accompany an acoustic guitar, but maybe/possibly).

Good product, quality control issues

I like playing 19th-century historical reenactments. I've made a point of accumulating or modifying the guitars and banjos I use for them to look as accurate as reasonably possible. But my bass player has nothing to play at those things - bass guitars were invented in the mid 20th century. A few months back I bought one of these and gave it to my bass player to practice up on. But then I decided I wanted one for myself. Except for the bass strings and the big tuning pegs, this is a good stand-in for a 19th-century "Size 0," or "Concert" guitar, which Martin invented before the Civil War (though smaller guitars were far, far, more common in those days). The first one I bought and gave to my bass player was fine. The first one I bought for myself had a buzz that I traced to the bridge (some users erroneously consider it "fret buzz", but I know how to test for that and for sympathetic vibration buzzes). If I had bought it used, I would have kept it and fixed it, but since I actually bought it new (a rarity for me), I contacted Ibanez. They told me to try all the things I had already tried, then said to send it back. So I contacted Musician's Friend. The customer service guy was extremely helpful; and helped me order a new one for the same cost as the one I was sending back (the price had gone up in the meantime). So it was all good, except for MF, who has now paid shipping three ways. The new one had exactly the same problem as the one I sent back. And, no, it wasn't the same instrument. I figured the whole batch probably had the same problem. At the time of this purchase (and at the time of this writing), no one else is making a bass in this configuration. And Ibanez includes a spare saddle and a shim for the thing. So I could either give up altogether or keep this one and troubleshoot it myself. I haven't got it fixed yet because there were other projects ahead of it in line. A few days later, the MF guy called me and asked me if I was satisfied with the replacement instrument, and I explained that I wasn't entirely satisfied, but I'd rather try to fix it on my own than go through the whole return process again and get a third instrument with the same problem. He offered to let me return that one, and I declined. As we ended the conversation, he sounded more confused than anything.

Its more compact build allows for easy storing as it does not take much space. It's extremely versatile as not only does the body produce a great acoustic sound, but the pickups inside the bass allow it to be used with an amplifier. The built-in tuner makes it easy to check for intonation.

  • I am happy with the parlor bass guitar.

Small-bodied acoustic bass guitar that is good for playing at home or when traveling. It has a surprising amount of top-end edge and grit for an acoustic, and strong mids that make up a husky, ballsy, honky tone.

This thing is so great. I'm not a bass player (yet). I was in GC replacing my acoustic guitar and saw this guy. I couldn't pass up the opportunity. It's easy to play, compact, and it sounds so good I can hardly believe it. The short scale makes it so accessible my 8 year old is learning to play it. It doesn't take up much space and I can comfortably noodle around on it while sitting in bed. Couldn't be happier with this thing, especially for the price. Highly recommend.

I love this bass! It sounds great played as an acoustic or plugged in. The tuner is easy to read and incredibly convenient. The action is a dream - you can play for hours with little to no hand fatigue. This one is an easy 5 stsrs. For less than $300 you get a fun and inspiring instrument that you can play for hours on end and you don't have to worry about damaging it.

So light compared to my electric basses. Plays like a dream. Sounds phenomenal. Can't put it down.

The Musician's Gear Electric Bass Case Violin Shaped case should work well. Otherwise any dreadnought guitar case should also work.
