Putting Together a Guitar Pedalboard with Nicholas Veinoglou

Livewire

collapse expand iconDescription

Livewire wanted to develop the perfect traveling pedalboard for the gigging guitarist or bassist, so they created their PB400 Tour Pedalboard with a soft case. This lightweight Signature Series was specifically crafted to handle the daily grind of touring that consists of multiple load-ins, loadouts, and lots of time spent in overhead stowaway compartments, all while keeping your beloved pedals safely protected.

Adjustable Design for the Pedal Pro

Throughout one set, players need to activate, toggle between, and stomp on various pedals for changes in volume, groovy effects and “wah” wailing, and the Livewire PB400 can accommodate players of all sizes and pedal angle requirements. The foundation of the PB400 tour pedalboard is easily adjustable so players can set the board to an angle that best suits their comfort level.

Convenient Under-Board Storage

Developers at Livewire know that guitar pedal configuration can be cumbersome. The PB400 tour pedalboard provides ample space underneath the pedal board so guitarists can maneuver each pedal’s power supply however they like.

Essential Tools

A handy wrench comes with the PB400 to adjust the pedalboard height and angle, and it is inconspicuously stored under the board.

Built to Last

The Livewire PB400 is crafted with durable aluminum for the mounting surface and offers side supports made with cast zinc so this board can truly take a beating. Players appreciate the rock-solid frame and lightweight construct of the PB400 tour pedalboard. A soft carrying case is included for maximum protection. The PB400 pedalboard top tier is 17.4-inches x 7.6-inches, and the bottom tier is 17-inches x 5-inches and can allow for hook-and-loop, cable ties and dual lock strip cable management styles.

Acceptable

As my experience has been overall positive, I'll focu son the shortcomings: The space for a power supply underneath is...debabatable. My walrus audio supply fits at a weird angle and without the kit from the company, it's not flush. It is noticible on non carpetted surfaces. As I use a gaff covered rug underneath everywhere I play anyway, this is deal-with-able, but not ideal. The columns(?) underneath need to be much wider to accomodate. The Phoenix IS big, but Voodoo Labs, Strymon, Cioks and the like would also not fit. MXR pancake style patch cables are potentially going to be a bit of a pain to angle, but I run quite a few units (about 12) so your mileage WILL vary. Def not neutrik lock patchbay compatible. Temple Audio bays should fit underneath. The included materials: The soft case is not suitable for professional use and I'd be hesitant to call it functional for amateur use, but the board fits in my hardcase very well. It is a solid overnight bag though. The velcro included was not quite enough. This feels nit picky thing, but still relevant. Plenty of zipties though. Pros: It feels very well made and quite sturdy. I can see some years of solid use being possible.

Not Very Good

I really wanted to like this board but it just isn't very practical. My biggest complaint is that if you utilize the two tier configuration, there isn't enough clearance on the lower level to use pedals with top mounted jacks. There are many holes in the board to allow for a variety of mounting options. However when configuring my pedals on the board I found that the spacing of the holes really does not allow for much flexibility in utilizing the space. If you choose to mount your pedals with Velcro there is not enough solid surface area. If you choose to use zip ties, the placement of the holes does not allow for a tight fit. I would essentially say this board is just over-engineered to the point of being almost useless.

This board is ok, but the hole pattern in the top is not good. Kinda forces you to use zip ties for mounting with not much surface for hook/loop tape. Biggest compliant is no way to mount a power supply without getting creative. Livewire, should make a power supply mount bracket.

I like the board. It has enough room that a newer player (ie, somebody without a lot of pedals) can lay a couple pedals on it and have years worth of expansion room left without it feeling huge early on with much more space than is needed.

  • I would definitely recommend
