    It is plastic and it goes bang. I put a strip of velcro loops along one side for a variety in sound. For this purpose, a lighter color of material would have been preferable. I also took a bit of sandpaper to roughen up the handle a bit. It's easy to drop when the perspiration hits.

    Before I got this beater I used a Meinl and a LP wood beater. Now I only use this. Never have to worry about it breaking and it brings out a bright loud tone out of your bell.
