Don't get me wrong: this drum is beautiful. With its price, it's a great value for a beginner. HOWEVER, if you're playing anything on the rim, as was the case for the middle eastern music I thought this drum was for, it'll leave you crying. I took it to a class and switched to a drum without a metal rim and boy was I happier. The doums were fine. The teks hurt. For a man-sized adult, the drum is a bit small to hold under your arm and across your knee, but it has a great sound. It's extremely portable and welcomed at drum circles. Wherever drum circles are welcomed. I am going to see if Guitar Center will let me exchange this style for one without a finger shredder. I love looking at the drum with its beautiful silver tooling. But I also want to be able to play it and retain all 10 of my fingers.
