Product Spotlight: Meinl Birch Sierra Cajon

Description
The Meinl Sierra birch snare cajon is a high-quality cajon handcrafted from birch to produce a wide range of tones. Its 100% birch construction gives it outstanding natural acoustic qualities, including full, resonant bass notes and crisp slaps. An internal snare system fitted against the playing surface adds a crisp snapping effect. The chestnut-stained front plate responds dynamically to different playing techniques, from finger rolls to corner slaps and bass hits, giving you optimal control over its sound.
100% Birch Construction for Superior Tone
As one of the most popular drum woods, birch is prized for its resonant, balanced tone. The Sierra birch snare cajon is made entirely from birch, from its playing surface to its resonating body, to produce rich lows, present mids and articulate highs with harmonic overtones. When you play towards the center, the solid birch resonating body expands the low frequencies to achieve a deep, punchy bass, much like a kick drum.
Internal Snare System Adds Crisp Sizzle
Fitted against the inside of the playing surface is an internal snare system made of coiled wires. When you slap the front plate, these wires rattle and snap for an bright sizzling effect, adding texture and dimension to your sounds. Adjust the snare wires to your desired tautness using the tension knob for more or less snap.
Responsive Playing Surface for Expressive Control
The Sierra birch snare cajon's chestnut-stained front plate responds dynamically to your playing technique, allowing you to shape its tone with your hands. Play with your fingers for warm, resonant rolls or slap the corners for a sharp crack. Tap the center for deep, punchy bass notes or hit the sides for a kick drum-like thump. With practice, you'll achieve an intuitive feel for the different sounds this cajon can produce.
Rubber Feet Provide Stability and Resonance
Non-slip rubber feet on the base of the cajon allow its resonating body to vibrate fully when played while preventing unwanted movement. The cajon remains securely in place as you play, even when performing energetic techniques.

Excellent quality at this price point.....
I have been playing cajon about ten years and I've owned many from different manufacturers. This model represents a very good value in my opinion. It is all wood without particle board, composite or OSB found in some other offerings in this price range. It also has much-better-than-average separation of bass tone and snare tone. Before purchasing, I auditioned this cajon against others costing much more. If you're in the market for an entry-level instrument, I recommend you do the same and compare this model from Meinl against other brands.... I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I bought the Meinl cajon when it it was on sale for Black Friday. I was taking a chance because I was prepared to spend a lot more. I was surprised how good this sounded. It sounds every bit as good as an LP I purchased last year that cost $40 more. If you're looking to save a few dollars, you can't go wrong with the Meinl Sierra.
Wonderful sound

What exactly are the dimensions of this Sierra Birch Snare Cajon? Has anyone compared the size and sound between this cajon and the MEINL Midsize Birchwood Cajon (15" x 10.25" x 10.25") Guitar Center also sells?
The MEINL Sierra Birch Snare Cajon has approximate dimensions of 11.75" (W) x 19.75" (H) x 12" (D) . While both cajons are crafted with quality materials and offer distinct tonal characteristics, your choice depends on your specific needs: Choose the Sierra Birch Snare Cajon if you prioritize a fuller sound with deeper bass and a larger playing surface. Opt for the Midsize Birchwood Cajon if portability and compactness are your main concerns, yet still desire a quality sound output.submitted4 months ago
