MEINL Percussion SUBCAJ5WN Jumbo Bass Cajon - Walnut

Jumbo Bass Cajon

Description
The Meinl Percussion Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon delivers massive low end and articulate highs in a handcrafted wooden box. With its internal reflex channel and front sound port in place of a traditional rear-facing one, the Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon projects enhanced bass notes that are ideal for unplugged gigs and busking. Fixed internal snare wires produce a sharp, cutting sound that enhances corner slaps and adds contrast to the cajon's formidable bass tones. Designed to swell with harder playing and provide a soft punch behind lighter notes, the Jumbo Bass Cajon responds like a kick drum to produce sounds that make a big impression.
Forward-Facing Sound Port for Powerful Bass
Rather than the typical rear-facing port, the Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon utilizes a forward-facing design and internal reflex channel to direct bass notes toward the audience. This innovative construction results in a robust low-end response that is particularly impactful in live, acoustic settings. The cajon's larger size also contributes to its immense bass tone, which blossoms as you play more vigorously.
Internal Snare Wires Add Crispness and Snap
Fixed snare wires inside the Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon generate a sharp, cutting sound that enhances the attack of corner slaps and provides contrast to the instrument's booming bass register. The snare wires lend crispness, snap and sizzle that slice through the mix, allowing the cajon to function as a percussion powerhouse with a wide range of tones.
Handcrafted Walnut Frontplate
The frontplate of the Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon is handcrafted from walnut, a dense, warm-toned wood that contributes to the instrument's musicality and visual appeal. Walnut's hardness also provides a durable playing surface built to withstand hours of practice and performance.
Portable and Road-Ready
Despite its formidable size and sound, the Jumbo Subwoofer Cajon is designed to be portable and roadworthy. Its wooden construction is sturdy yet not overly heavy, allowing for easy transport to gigs, rehearsals and busking locations. The cajon can also serve as a compact, all-in-one percussion setup for tight stages where space is limited.

This cajon has the strongest bass that I've heard. It's so loud and the sound is so full I don't even need to mic up for some smaller gigs. The snare sound isn't phenomenal, but it complements the low end well. The walnut face is really playable and I feel like I can play this cajon louder than others (that might just be because I'm growing calluses). Overall awesome cajon, this is my first personal that I purchased myself and it's been worth every penny.
The sound on this is incredible!

I've always wanted to learn drums, but simply don't have the coordination to get my hands and feet to do things together at the same time. My wife plays organ and I don't know how she does that either. However, when I'm at work or just about anywhere I'm always finger banging on things and making rhythms while listening to music. I figured, hey, I could learn to play this! After spending a significant amount of time shopping around with my daughter and trying different cajons and watching a ton of videos and reviews on YouTube I determined I wanted one with extra bass to it as most of them just sounded to high to me. I was really leaning toward a Pearl Primero Crate style when I ran across a bunch of video reviews for this one. Everyone said it was unique and they weren't kidding! So, myy daughter bought this one for me as an early Christmas present! We took it to my wife's family Thanksgiving get together where a bunch of the others brought various instruments. I brought this along and and we had an over 3 hour jam session! People were amazed at the sound of this thing! The bass sounds like a real kick drum and the snare is crisp and sounds like a mid size snare. The slap in the corners is nice and sharp as well. This is the closest to real drums that I've heard from a cajon and the sound is amazing! The original intent was to use this in church while my son is learning to play acoustic guitar and play worship music. This will certainly fit the bill. You don't need to really amplify it either as it is very powerful! The walnut wood is also lovely. I totally recommend this cajon to anyone who wants a beautiful, nice sounding, powerful instrument! Only negative I can really see is for the price you'd think they would include a case.
Exceeded my expectations

Lowest sonorous bass I've heard in a cajon, and that's primarily what I need. Will work well with a pedal for setting up a makeshift "kit". Seems you can either have excellent snare snap or deep bass, not both with a cajon. This snap is decent and I'm glad to own it.
