    This shaker has a sharp crisp sound that cuts through and really helps give accent to the beat. The shaker can be held sideways (like a flying saucer) or vertically with the thin edge pointing up. If held vertically, the beads inside have a shorter distance to travel, and a larger surface to hit, to you get a loud, crisp 'chick-chick' sound. This is the way I usually use it. If held sideways, you get a more 'shhick-shhick' sound. Also, it fits nicely in my pocket because it's flatter than a regular 'egg' shaker.
