MEINL

collapse expand iconDescription

Meinl Percussion is proud to offer the Wood Guiro, this 14-3/4" guiro produces mellow tones reminiscent of traditional Latin American rhythms. Its teardrop-shaped body features three textured surfaces for scraping, each yielding a different sonic range. A high-gloss finish protects the wood while highlighting its natural grain.

Authentic Guiro Sound from Hollowed Hardwood

The Wood Guiro's 100 percent hollow hardwood body and solid wood scraper deliver the classic raspy guiro sounds Latin musicians seek. Its tight wood ridge pattern amplifies each scrape, allowing the warm, mellow tones to cut through. Two grip holes on the back provide a comfortable hold, enabling resonance as you play.

Three Striking Surfaces for Tonal Variety

Three separate striking surfaces—each with a different texture—produce a range of guiro sounds. The smooth area yields a lighter, higher-pitched tone, while the medium and rough surfaces generate progressively lower, grittier sounds. Move the included wooden scraper across each area to create rhythmic patterns with tonal contrast.

Ergonomic Shape for All-Night Playing Comfort

The Wood Guiro's balanced teardrop profile fits comfortably in hand for long periods of play. At 2-1/4" wide and 2-3/4" deep, it's easy to grasp and maneuver. The high-gloss finish provides a smooth surface, preventing irritation even after extended use. Two grip holes allow multiple hand positions so you can keep playing in comfort.

Includes Durable Wooden Scraper

A 6-1/4" wooden scraper is included for rhythmic guiro patterns. Its solid wood construction produces clear scraping sounds across all striking surfaces. The scraper's rounded handle and tapered end give you full control and articulation.

This has an excellent wood sound AND is built more durable than the others except plastic but who wants that plastic sound. I worried about construction until I got it and it is built thick enough for the Meinl guiro holder not to crack it. This fits perfect on the drum set as the Meinl holder slides on to a Tom holder, in my case shares the holder rod with the fabulous and fantastic mini conga. A must have instrument.

  • Sounds great and seems very durable.

I had just written a song that I thought needed this sound. I recorded the song and this sounded perfect in it. It is not for all music, but when you need this particular sound, this guiro delivers. I also have a cajon from this company and I'm very happy with it as well.
