This pedal has its up and downs. The boost side is perfect for solos or when pickups aren't loud enough. No problem with the boost. The overdrive to me is more like a slight fuzz pedal. It should be used on top of a more gain sound. It gives you the sustain for solos. It's overall a good pedal. Just wish the tone and gain would sound more like a od that you can use independently.

I just bought an orange dual terror and a mesa boogie 412 with v30's. Im playing it through a PRS se tremonti and a custom 24 with a jb/59 set. Also i have a epi les paul standard with a super distortion in it. All of these guitars sound awesome through this set up! My orange amp was lacking a tad though. Although it had the awesome sounding distortion there just wasnt enough kick in the chugs! I saw this pedal and thought it was the coolest thing they combined the mc 401 and an overdrive in one unit for less than the price of two! This thing kicked my orange right into the perfect setting! It gives me that extra gain and volume and chug that i need for hardcore music! Plus it doesnt sound too bad by itself in the clean mode. It can get pretty dirty! The clean boost part of it actually works better for me than the overdrive does to my surprise! I didnt think just a boost could save my amp but it made it the 5 star amp when i got this pedal. Definitely worth checking out!

This pedal is perfect for one thing: boosting your signal or your drive. The boost is amazing, it is perfect it doesn't change your tone and 20db is a whopping amount of boost to have at your feet. The OD is where most people are fooled, this is not your average OD that must be left clear. This OD is very clean and clear it doesnt change much your tone but it boosts and adds the perfect touch of gain to boost and give your lead tone that fatter meatier and endless sustain touch. This overdrive is not meant to be a stand alone overdrive it should be used with an already overdriven amp or behind another OD or distortion pedal to give you that extra humph you might be missing. In general what a great pedal it is perfect you can use it in many ways you can even use it to make yourself a three channel amp, first with nothing clena, crucnh with the boost and lead with the overdrive. great pedal but it isn't for everybody those who found it to be a piece of **** dont really know how to use it, they might of been fooled by the CAE on it, but i find this pedal to be trully worthy of the CAE

After playing the MC-402 Boost/Overdrive Pedal on my Vox Ac-30 with Alnico blue speakers, through a cheap Chinese made strat, the results were JAW DROPPING! When you turn the overdrive down all the way it adds a sparkle drive sound, then once cranked, the sound is well defined, with breath taking highs and lows, this pedal will rock your socks off, I'm telling you this is the tone that most mondern players have been dreaming about.

I've been searching for an overdrive and boost stomp box and have finally found it. The MXR MC-402 can be dialed in to achieve almost any tone. My preference is a somewhat clean driving crunch but if you want metal heavy distortion, just dial it in. I've tried the TC VPD1, the Rocktron Booster and they just don't have the range, flexibility, and overall tone that the MC-402 can produce. The boost function is also incredibly flexible and not over bearing. My leads now stand out and shine through the heavy rock rhythms I favor. It's a great product!

I purchased this pedal to drive my JCM-800 VINTAGE REISSUE 100 WATT HEAD. This pedal is amazing! It provides the ultimate in pure rich thick tone that does not, I repeat not affect the tonality of your amp's true signal A beautiful true tone machine!!! THE BOOST IS GREAT FOR SOLO WORK IT REALLY PROJECT'S WELL. Overall I highly recommend this pedal to guitarist's needing a well constructed great sounding pedal. Many of my fellow players and student's alike have bought this pedal and they also think highly of it.THANKS, WENDELL
