MXR

collapse expand iconDescription

The MXR EVH Phase 90 effects pdeal, a collaboration between Eddie Van Halen and Jim Dunlop that provides an updated take on the iconic Phase 90 phaser. Made famous by Eddie's use on Van Halen's self-titled debut album, the Phase 90 delivers the same lush, swirling effects that shaped the sound of a generation. The EVH 90 packs upgraded features for today's players while retaining the warm, hypnotic tone that made the original famous. This limited-edition pedal is a must-have for any serious guitarist's rig.

Choose Your Era: Vintage or Modern Phase Tones

The EVH 90 gives you instant access to two distinct phase tones with the flip of a switch. Engage the "Script" mode for warm, vintage phasing inspired by the original "script logo" Phase 90. For a more aggressive, cutting-edge sound, select the "Block" setting—modeled after the later "block logo" Phase 90. Whatever your style, the EVH 90 has you covered with era-specific phasing tailored to your needs.

Road-Ready and Built to Last

Housed in a rugged, lightweight aluminum enclosure, the EVH 90 is ready to handle the demands of any stage or studio session. Its solid-state circuitry and high-quality components provide consistent performance and years of trouble-free use under harsh conditions. The EVH 90 also features an LED indicator, battery access door and mono in/out jacks—all in a pedalboard-friendly housing that takes up minimal space on your rig.

A Piece of Rock and Roll History

More than just a phaser, the EVH 90 is a tribute to one of rock's greatest guitarists and the influential tones that shaped his signature style. From its iconic red, black and white stripes—taken from Eddie's legendary "Frankenstein" guitar—to the lush phasing that was instrumental in songs like "Eruption" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," the EVH 90 lets you tap into a pivotal era of rock music history.

First off this thing is phenominal. If you are a fan of the David Lee Roth era van halen guitar tone you need this pedal to capture the tone. People say that this is not a very good phase shifter, however they really do not know what a phase 90 does. The pahse 90 adds a trebele boost that makes solo's cut through the mix. Those words were spoken by EVH himself so believe me this pedal is essential. The EVH phase 90 is one of the esiest pedals to use. I mean how hard is it, it has a on/off switch, a speed knob, and a Script switch. The great think about this script switch is it allows you to have the older "script" sound which EVH used, rather then the more modern sounding "block" phasing. If you are a fan of early VH, get this pedal, because if you dont your tone will just always lack that extra "uummmffff" that this pedal will give it.That being said it will not make you sound like ed or capture the brown sound, but it 'll get you one step closer.

Rip-Off

This pedal didn't sound too bad at first besides the fact that it is very limited in its capabilities due to the singular knob. While the tone is one of the better I have heard, the script button serves little purpose and turning the knob changes the phase speed but very it is very subtle. Overall I do not recommend this, it was a waste of money, especially for the price. It is extremely over-priced for such low capability and it is because it has Eddie's name on it. That is it. There are better phase pedals out there and this one just decided to break randomly about 2 weeks after purchase and 20 hours of play. Do not buy, for the sake of your wallet.

I like this Phaser a lot. Maybe not as great build quality as some more expensive pedal makers but seems durable. The only complaint I have is the Blue LED is retina burning bright lol.

I use this to add flavor to rhythm and solos. It's the perfect tone at 9/10 o'clock.

I love this pedal. I bought it since I wanted a phase 90. I ended up going with this over a regular phase 90 because of both the EVH stripes and the "script" button. If you haven't heard the difference between script and regular, it is barely noticeable. Script is more compressed. If you want to get the perfect EVH tone, script is the way to go. I highly recommend this pedal to anyone who is looking for a phaser pedal.
