Description
The MXR Fullbore Metal distortion pedal is designed to push your guitar tone into overdrive. This compact but powerful pedal turbocharges your signal with lethal amounts of ultrahigh gain, combined with a built-in Noise Gate to knock out noise and add definition to syncopated riffs. With extensive EQ controls and a Scoop switch, you can sculpt your tone with fiendish precision.
High-Gain Distortion Provides Devastating Metal Tones
The Fullbore Metal distortion pedal provides massive amounts of gain to produce the most devastating contemporary metal guitar tones. Dial in anything from overdrive to extreme distortion with the Gain knob. The 3-band EQ with sweepable midrange frequencies lets you shape your tone to perfection. Boost the lows and highs with the Scoop switch for rumbling bass, sizzling highs and cutting mids.
Fast Noise Gate Adds Tightness and Clarity
The built-in Noise Gate instantly eliminates unwanted noise and hum, even at the Fullbore Metal's most extreme gain settings. Its fast response provides tightness and clarity to syncopated riffs and shredding solos. An internal Gate Threshold control lets you adjust the gate's sensitivity to your liking.
Rugged and Compact Design
Despite its formidable power, the Fullbore Metal distortion pedal has a compact and rugged design that's built to handle life on the road. It features an all-analog signal path for authentic tone. True bypass switching ensures your tone is uncolored when the pedal is off. The Fullbore Metal's small footprint saves precious real estate on your pedalboard.

Fullbore
Alot of knobs, but they all serve a purpose. The Frequency knob adds 'grit' to your tone. The noise gate feature is cool if you play at freakishly high volume settings. Oh, and ungodly amounts of gain. True bypass, gotta love it. Average battery life and built like a tank. Easily does any form of metal.

I got this pedal about a year and a half ago and was really looking forward to using it in my chain of effects. I was surprised as to how processed and "fake" the tones sounded. There wasn't any warmth or character to it from my experiences with it. It was just really loud and then just really loud some more. Now, grant it, I'm not a Metal style player. I ventured to get this pedal because I was in need of some thicker boosts to my amp, and I got way more than necessary. However, I believe, back then, my issue with my amp or rig was my own fault for me not taking the time to dial in a precise tone, but in my opinion this Fullbore Metal Pedal is too much even for metal players that I know. The best route to take, in my opinion, from playing heavier style music for about ten years (I'm 21 now) is to go with warm, , true bypassed, analog, overdrive pedals added to your dirty channel of your amp. Doing this gives it warmth, and the character of tube - like crunch tones (ex: Marshall, Orange, Bogner, Mesa, etc). Guitarists like Zakk Wylde and even the guys from Killswitch Engage don't use a Fullbore type metal pedal, as some may think. Metal is more in the technique, not all in the gain of an amp in my opinion. I wouldn't buy this pedal. Get OD pedals.

I needed a pedal to add distortion to my BOSS amp. It has gain, distortion and all that, but it is nowhere near what you need to play heavy metal. This thing takes it up to all you need and probably more. Before I guess the sound from my amp was what I would call weak. This has made my guitar sound totally different. Definitely made for high gain/ distortion. If this is what you are after it shouldn't disappoint you!!
This it's a great sounding pedal good bass and highs

I have been looking for this distortion sound my entire 26 years I've been playing guitar. It's really sweet for palm muting and especially amazing when it comes to pinch harmonics. If you're looking for a great metal sound and play fast or thrash metal you will love this pedal. I'm seriously considering buying another one in case something happens to mine. It does require a good 9V adapter to work but a one spot is fine even if you have everything else plugged in with it on a single daisy chain. Seriously just buy it and I recommend the scoop button being on but for some songs it's better off.

Will it play well with a Vox AC15C1
Vox has a really good clean tone, so it would work with almost any pedal you can throw at it, so I would say yes.
