collapse expand iconDescription

The MXR M249 Super Badass dynamic overdrive effects pedal is a rugged overdrive stompbox that delivers a wide range of distortion tones with incredible touch sensitivity. The Super Badass dynamic O.D. features MXR's innovative Dynamic Circuit, which produces a highly articulate overdrive effect that is controlled by your playing dynamics. Roll back the volume on your guitar to clean up the sound or dig in harder for increased saturation. Add extra bite to any rig while preserving your tonal dynamics with the MXR M249 Super Badass dynamic overdrive effects pedal.

Dynamic Circuit Technology Provides Super-Sensitive Response

At the heart of the M249 is MXR's Dynamic Circuit, which creates overdrive tones that respond dramatically to changes in pick attack and guitar volume. This innovative circuitry enables the Super Badass Dynamic O.D. to produce overdrive sounds that range from a hint of grit to full-on distortion. Simply adjust the amount of overdrive using the Drive control and then vary the intensity using your guitar's volume knob or by altering your picking dynamics. This responsiveness allows you to achieve overdrive tones that sound and feel completely natural.

Roadworthy Design Built to Last

Like all MXR pedals, the M249 Super Badass dynamic O.D. is built to withstand years of gigging and studio use. Its rugged metal housing contains high-quality components and a reliable footswitch. Powered by a 9V battery or the included AC adapter, the M249 delivers professional overdrive tones anywhere you need them.

I initially wrote this pedal off as too compressed and lacking dynamics, but I feel compelled to admit my hasty judgement and write up another review after discovering what this pedal is aiming for. The sad part is that I did the same exact thing when I initially got the Fulltone OCD... tried it on a couple amps, felt it to be too saturated, and sent it back. I recently got a couple Orange amps. I found out that the Dynamic drive was MXR's version of an OCD, and I remembered that Orange recommends the OCD as a good pairing. I'm so glad I gave the dynamic drive another chance. It really is a great match with both my Orange amps! To my ears, the dynamic drive sounds better with Orange tones than my Klon, Lightspeed, and Morning Glory (my #1 overdrive). If you dig what the OCD does, it's likely you'll put the M249 to good use as well. It's a terrific drive with the right amp.

OK, This should have been a five star review. The pedal sounds amazing thru my Fender Twin Reverb using humbucker pups. What is unfortunate are the MANY paint blemishes and grinding marks in the housing. To pay shipping back and forth for an exchange makes it too costly.

Sounds full. Works great plugged straight into a clean amp. Sounds beautiful plugged into a dirty channel too. Plays well with other dirt pedals. Very touch responsive. Nice sustain when needed. Received complements on my sound. Which is always appreciated. Reminds me a lot of the EVH Overdrive pedal. The tone control is very useful. Enjoy!

This is a nice sounding overdrive, but to my ears and fingers, gets compressed and saturated very early in the gain range. The mid switch is nice, but again it only saturates earlier. I don't know that "dynamic" is the right descriptor for this pedal. It sounds best when paired with an amp on the edge of break up or completely clean (which I rarely play). Because I mostly play with the amp's distortion, using an overdrive to tighten things up, I didn't find much use for this pedal that I don't already have. I couldn't justify keeping it.
