MXR M66S Classic Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal

Description
The MXR M66S Classic Overdrive guitar effects pedal adds a touch of grit and gain to your guitar's signal without compromising its inherent tone. With independent output and gain controls, you can dial in the perfect amount of overdrive and tailor the volume to suit any playing situation. A simple footswitch lets you toggle between the effect and bypassing it with ease.
Output and Gain Controls Provide Ultimate Versatility
The M66S gives you total control over your overdrive tone with independent output and gain knobs. Increase the gain to push your amp into creamy, harmonically rich overdrive or keep it subtle for a touch of grit. Then adjust the output to balance the volume for any playing environment, from a small club gig to an arena show. With this level of versatility, you can achieve any overdrive tone you want.
Simple Bypass Lets Your Natural Tone Shine Through
A no-nonsense footswitch provides an easy way to engage and disengage the overdrive effect. When bypassed, your guitar's signal passes directly through unaffected, allowing its natural tone to ring out clear and true. Activate the overdrive for a classic, tube-like crunch or to push a distorted amp channel into singing sustain. A quick tap of the footswitch is all it takes to return to your guitar's pure tone.
Indestructible Housing Protects Your Tone
Housed in an indestructible die-cast enclosure, the M66S is built-to-withstand years of performance use without impacting your tone. Its rugged construction shields the pedal's circuitry from damage so you can achieve the same great overdrive sound night after night. Power it with a 9V battery for convenience or a Dunlop AC adapter (both sold separately) for consistency.

Excellent as a drive or clean boost with 2 modes
This is an excellent overdrive. I was really looking at a Maxon 808 and a few other popular overdrives to use as a clean boost (0 gain, max output volume, feeding the distorted channel of a tube amp) for metal playing to tighten up the sound. This pedal works perfect for that. Unlike a lot of OD I've tried it retains the low end and the tone of the guitar/amp and just tightens up the flab, makes the sound crisp, and really gives bite and sustain. Google and you will find it has a hidden switch on the board inside to change from the MXR GT-OD sound to a Zakk Wylde Signature Overdrive sound. Both sound excellent but one offers more volume and bass frequencies on my Marshall DSL401 (feeding a 4x12 Bugera cabinet). I drilled a hole in the cover of the pedal so I can flip the switch with a screwdriver. This pedal has 0 signal noise and when it's off it sounds exactly like there is no pedal in the chain at all so the bypass is extremely good unlike other pedals I've tried. On the clean channel it works well as a clean boost but if you dial up the gain it gives a very warm and bluesy overdrive tone that fills the gap well between my clean and OD1 channel. On the low gain overdrive channel it gives a nice crispness and bite and boosts sustain and attack for better hammer ons and pull offs without adding more distortion/gain to the sound. On the high gain overdrive channel it just cleans everything up and takes the muddiness out, especially in Drop D or Drop C tunings. Used these are the best value on the market for an overdrive.

Waste of money
I first bought this pedal just to have and when I first plugged it in, it didn't work at all so I went to return it and got a new one. It worked for a week and it just didn't give me any sound but the light turned on but no Audio.

Great design. Simple but effective layout. Can be used to help dial in those SRV tones. Great for dialing out those spiky treble overtones that some amplifier sometimes exhibit.
Recommended purchase!

this thing is totally horrible. It either muds everything out or just make your amp squeal, cause a total waste of time effort and money.
Nice vintage overdrive

Great pedal. Has a switch inside that can make it a wylde overdrive if you're willing to take it apart and like that particular sound. Great price as well.
