The Mapex Black Panther Shadow birch/walnut snare drum produces a dramatic, deep and dark sound. The Shadow is gloomy and lends a bit of obscurity to the mix when darkness is the prevailing musical character. Dusky and shady, this drum growls through any midnight groove.

This drum is fitted with Mapex's proprietary Sonic Saver hoops, a middle ground between triple-flange and die-cast. They’re made from steel that’s folded inward for a round shape instead of a flat flange. Sonic Savers control the tone for a drier sound than triple-flange, but they don’t deaden the drum the way die-cast hoops can. They also reduce wear on the drum and sticks. The result is a focused snare with clean, punchy rim shots every time.

    At low tuning this snare has a fat sound that pretty dang nice. At high tuning it has A "CRACK" that just amazing. But at medium tuning HOLY MOTHER OF GOD this snare has a low and tight sound that is beyond awesome. The throw off is so smooth as all Black Panther Snares. This is now my go to with my Brass Cat at Gigs.

    We purchased this snare along with a Mapex kit for our church and the sound of this snare is awesome! Very crisp sound. Currently in the process of trying some different tunings. Right now it's tuned to a higher pitch and it sounds great! If you're looking for versatile snare that sounds great, definitely check this out!
