Markbass

collapse expand iconDescription

Building on the success of the popular original Markbass Little Mark, the Blackline Little Mark 250 offers great, useful features and power for studio, practice and smaller live use—and offers it at a killer price.

It features XLR and 1/4" inputs, a six-band EQ—including VPF (Variable Pre-shape Filter); center frequency 380Hz (cut) and VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) frequency range 250Hz–20kHz (cut)—gain, volume and line-out controls. The back panel hosts the speaker output, tuner out, FX loop and switchable pre/post EQ XLR line out for direct recording or feeding cleanly to a house PA.

Great bass amp head!

I bought the Blackline Little Mark 250 as a back up amp to my regular gigging amp. Currently using it for rehearsals with two 1 x 15 acoustic bass speakers. Sounds great! I would use it for small or medium size venues on it's own and large rooms with direct out to the "house system". This was my first Mark Bass product purchase, and very impressed with the quality of this unit.

It's not the Markbass, it's me

This was my first dip into the Class D amp pool. It left me a little 'dry', I'm afraid. There wasn't a dynamic presence in it's sound (despite all the tone setting available). It's meant for a tighter sound & I wanted an 'open', dynamic sound. I also had to push the amp harder than I cared to. I like lots of headroom to work with. For the record, I've been using Hartke rigs since 1989 with a Zoom 506 pedal as a preamp (with active & passive basses). Other rock bassists (mainly classic rock) love the sound of that combo. Markbass is a great line, but they're not for me!. Oh yeah, I don't use compression! Studio engineers do & I have to ask them to allow more of the dynamic to cut through, fyi.

I like this one, and I must say that I wasn't a fan of MarkBass. But now I'm a believer. Two things that I like most: it has two knobs to tweak the character of your tone, then, you have a DI Level knob to control the output to the main PA (independent from your Master Level..!).

Purchased this Markbass Blackline 250w Amp head to replace a competing brand for studio use. It is driving 2 10" Eminence speakers plus a compression Horn. Sound Quality is pristine. The XLR line out is clean and useful. All around a great amp for most studio applications.

I bought this head a few years back as a back up to my SVT-CL, without actually trying one out. I was impressed with the tight and punchy tone with my P bass. I enjoyed it so much that I got curious about Markbass's other products and ordered a 4 ohm Traveler 210. This little set up became my bar gig rig and the SVT stack got sold. I was in a 4 piece rock band with only kick drum and vocals in the PA. The guitarist played through a 5150 212 60w. No problem with volume. With my passive P bass I ran the EQ on the head mostly flat and occasionally a little bump in the low mids. I didn't use the two onboard filters much because they pretty much cut out all the frequencies that cut through the mix. I never struggled for volume. The tone cut through perfectly and sounded excellent with very little effort from the amp. It ran cool and reliably. The best part was load-in time. Throw my bass over my shoulder, cab in one hand, head in the other. I stupidly sold this rig when I was pairing down my collection of gear. Now I'm seriously contemplating rebuilding this exact set up because I think this may have been one of the best sounding and definitely the most portable rig I've ever used. I've also owned the Player School combo which has this head built in and it too was impressive. Markbass has changed my opinion about needing big heavy tube amps and giant cabs to get the tone and volume I want. I will most likely be purchasing this amp again in the near future.

It's a great sounding amp with plenty of solid low end. With an 8-ohm GK Neo 2x12 cabinet, it's loud enough to gig with a loud-ish punk rock band, although the 500 or 800 watt models might be a safer bet for really loud band. Either way, it has a commanding presence. I felt like people were listening to me more now than when I play my Fender Rumble 200 or my Darkglass Alpha Omega 500. I like the general EQ setup and the punchy lows and low mids.

So I have a hartke 4x10 250 watt cab. It says 8 ohms on the back. Could I plug this into it? Or would it blow up. Also, if I use a head that says 4 ohms load, would plugging it into my Hartke blow up the amp?

You can use the MarkBass with the Hartke as it's 8 ohms. Now, if you use a head that is rated at 4 ohms, you can use the Hartke because it's above the 4 ohm minimum. You can use (2) 8 ohm cabinets on the Markbass.
