Markbass Little Mark Vintage 500W Bass Amp Head

Description
The latest must-have in the state-of-the-art Gold series, the Markbass Little Mark Vintage 500W bass amp head is designed to be versatile enough for any player to achieve their perfect sound. With an excellent balance between clarity and tone, the Little Mark Vintage hits the sweet spot giving a full range of rich harmonics. Its compact size, light weight, top-quality components and gold-plated circuits make it the amp you need for your ideal tone.
Best in Class
Featuring a tube preamp, the Little Mark Vintage gives massive amounts of punchy lows and a bright, clear high end with lots of string definition. The limiter control restricts the amount of headroom when dialed back, giving a more vintage amp feel for a versatile sound. With a 4-band EQ, you can easily achieve a well-balanced tone that seamlessly blends into your mix. There is also a switch that offers three EQ presets: Flat, which gives a modern neutral feel; Cut, which provides scooped mids and Old, which immediately gives a vintage tone with enhanced warmth.
High-Quality Features With High-Quality Sound
With a perfectly balanced D.I. circuitry, the transformer gives a rich and full sound without any distortion on all frequencies. The Gold Line series features gold-plated circuits with high-quality components that deliver a crystal-clear sound. The highly requested footswitchable mute is easy to use for tuning or switching your instrument seamlessly. Providing further ease is the dual footswitch, which gives you the ability to turn your EQ section on or off. An attractive amp in a compact, lightweight size that offers minimal fuss for an easy stylized tone, the Little Mark Vintage is the ideal choice for your optimal sound.

(Punch * Warmth) + (Portability * Power) = HAPPINESS
Scenario: Playing 30+ years. Currently in 5-Pc, 70's, 80's, 90's classic rock/funk/dance. I gig w/ a 'loud' drummer who loves his cymbals, double bass pedals and shotgun snare hits. Typical stage: small 12 foot to moderate 30 foot stages, indoor/outdoor. Few years back I went from a 160lb Hartke rig to a 65lb MarkBass rig (CMD102p combo w/151p ext cab) and loved the power, sound and portability, but decided I wanted the flexibility of separate head and cabs. I went for this MarkBass LM Vintage 500 and am 'overjoyed' by the warm, full sound. Sounds better than the LMIII in the combo. I use it with my Stingray and a fretless. Punchy bottom is there and the notes cut through beautifully. I don't even feel much need to adjust EQ much. Cabinets used: MB 102HF and MB TRVLR 151p putting amp at 4 ohms/500W. In loudest scenario, I keep volume between 9/10 o'clock (12 being mid point) and everyone 'feels and hears' me. I like this amp so much I bring it to the rehearsal studio and replace their head w/ mine. I also picked up the MB amp bag and wear it like a back pack w my bass on shoulder. I just unzip it and wire it up still in the bag (which is vented). If you're playing overdriven metal, might not the be ideal MB amp for you, but for rock, funk, jazz, R&B, dance. YES!!

Best tone I've heard in a bass amp but dubious build quality
Boy, I really want to love this amp. It's easy to love the tone. Right out of the box on a flat setting, my Fodera just sings through this amp. In combination with the 2x12 Ninja 122 cabinet (8 ohm) it just fills the room with warm, rich, yet punchy and articulate sound. The dials are laid out logically, and the frequencies they adjust are wisely chosen. This amp seems to give you any tone you want, yet doesn't present very many ways to make a bad tone. It seems to sound good no matter what EQ settings you're using, even if the setting isn't to your taste - it's not like some amps that will break glass or sound like a plastic bucket if you turn one knob too far in a given direction. So all this is fantastic, which only leaves one real problem with the sound coming from this amp - the noise floor. There is a good amount of hiss at all times, regardless of gain or EQ settings. And by "good amount" I really mean bad amount, because it means that this amp is going to be studio challenged. That's a crying shame, and although I have yet to measure the DI output (more about that later) to see if it has this same hiss, you can toss the idea of using a mic'd cab in the studio, especially if it has a horn. The 12AX7 tube used in this circuit is a questionable choice, and strikes me as a possible gimmick however. The tube appears to not be used in the first gain stage. I haven't verified this with a schematic, but based on its position on the circuit board, and the way the amp sounds when you clip the input, I'd say the first gain stage is decidedly solid-state. So that begs the question of why the tube is even there in the first place. If you're not using it in the input section for its overload characteristics, then what tube-like quality are you hoping to extract from it? So why take away two stars? Build quality. Connectors that came half unplugged in shipping, pots mounted with inappropriate connectors, just a sloppy build overall. Reliability dubious.

This AMP failed on the third gig. On the first and second job had problems powering up the amp. Thought a bad power cable connection but on the third it FAILED right in the middle of the gig and would not come back on. I waited a year to get that job. 6mo out from purchase I had used this 3 times because only needed for large outside jobs.

I am a guitar play who has transitioned to bass. It was time to elevate the quality of my bass gear. I compared this to the Little Mark IV 500 watt head at my local GC and chose this as it has a warmer tone overall. Used it in rehearsal last night and everyone was blown away by the tone and power of this amp. It has a warm, clear and full tone which you could just feel in the room. I paired it with a Markbass Traveler 2x10 cab which pairs nicely with this head. Coming from someone who has plenty of pricey guitar gear including several high quality guitar amps, this is perhaps the single best purchase of gear I have ever made.
Light and very portable

Cant remember the guy's name, I do live in Colorado.... but hands down the best help I have ever had at the Guitar Center on Colorado and I've been going there since 1998 I think. I was actually over Guitar Center in general, but the guy really helped me find exactly what I needed amplifier wise. I would Mos Deff go back.
