Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Description
Built on a dreadnought platform, the Martin 15 Series D-15M guitar boasts 14 open frets for a unique design and great range of tone. The top, back, and sides are genuine solid mahogany, offering strong guitar tone, with crisp, clear subtleties in each note's definition. One of mahogany's finest qualities is its density. Although it's not the hardest tonewood, it is free of air pockets and other deformities.
The vintage sound produced by the Martin 15 Series D-15M acoustic guitar is reminiscent of the Style 15 Martin guitars made popular during the 1940s. The Martin guitar is equipped with a mortise and tennon neck joint, offering the best wood binding practice ever conceived. Often used for shipbuilding, the process fuses two pieces of wood into a single, sturdy unit that stands up to the elements time and time again. The results are evident with the strength in tone and power in projection that you hear with each strum of this Martin acoustic guitar.
The Martin guitar's solid mahogany neck further complements the crisp, defined acoustic sound of this dreadnought. The bridge and fingerboard are solid East Indian rosewood, adding smooth sustain to the mix. The 14 open frets, 1.6875" nut width, 2.13" bridge string spacing, and 16" radius add comfort for your intricate fingerboard movements.
Other appointments include a single-ring rosette, bone nut, solid/square taper headstock, solid East Indian rosewood headplate, diamonds and square fingerboard inlay, belly-style bridge, nickel open-geared tuning machines with butterbean knobs, and a solid black ebony bridge and end pins. Dressed in a soft satin finish and featuring a Delmar tortoise color pickguard, the Martin D15M guitar glows with classic vintage looks and sound.
Includes a Martin 345 hardshell guitar case.
Martin Dreadnought
The very first dreadnought guitars were designed and crafted by C. F. Martin & Co. in 1916, but marketed in Boston and New York exclusively under the Oliver Ditson brand. Originally made for Hawaiian slide playing style, the very first dreadnought made was a Model 222 shipped to Ditson in August of 1916. After Ditson went out of business in the early 1930s, Martin introduced the D-1 and D-2 dreadnoughts for standard playing style that would soon become Martin’s iconic D-18 and D-28 models. Over the past 100 years, the Martin dreadnought has helped define what an acoustic guitar can and should be, and subsequently, it has become one of the most popular acoustic guitar designs in the world.
Note: Due to supply chain issues from COVID-19, Martin cannot guarantee a faux tortoise pickguard. During this time, the guitar you receive may have a black pickguard. We apologize for this inconvenience and as soon as the supply chain issue is resolved, the faux tortoise pickguard will be standard again.

D-15M just received
Had a really lousy guitar since I was a kid, decided to get back into playing a bit by special ordering this D-15M through Guitar Center. So this is not an expert opinion, but since there are no reviews, figured I would offer one. Guitar looks and sounds great. Smells like you are playing a chocolate bar inside of a cigar box - I stick my nose in and breathe in deeply every time I take it out of the case - it is great. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this guitar, so if it is in your budget, go for it. I liked the differences from the D-15, feel like if you are spending a grand on a guitar, a little more for these features is worth it. Strange to me that some people think it is too "plain" looking - personally I am not really into having a mother of pearl inlay shaped like a dragon on my fretboard, but to each his own I guess.

I bought a Martin 15DM almost 20 years ago to strum at home. I wanted a little deeper tone than my other acoustic guitars at the time. I fell in love with the neck. I like the way it matched up with my vocals. It was versatile on the volume. Soft and smooth voice or "BOOM". But a nice boom . I was talked into trading it to my son in Texas for an old Taylor I had given him years before . My wife wanted the Taylor back to place in a room as an accent. Also she loved the time period when we had it around the house. I look at it , but rarely pick it up. I just returned from a trip home to Austin/Temple and played the old 15DM for an hour. I really wish I had it back. If you need to fingerpick, maybe there is a better guitar out there for the money? But if you are a singer/strummer, this guitar is hard to beat at any price. I cannot find the same singing inspiration until I get into Gibson Songwriter money. Maybe Martin D28. But They do not have that narrow nut width that old arthritic guys can hold onto easier. I would have to check the specs on the d28. Anyway, I highly recommend this guitar. I wish I had mine in my lap now.
Ridiculously good tone.

This thing sounds incredible. It almost hurts to say this, but I prefer the tone to my Martin M36 and Martin D18, both of which are way more expensive, and both sound amazing in different ways. The tone is a bit darker, and "woody" sounding, but still open and articulate. Not sure if I just got a gem or what, but it's amazing. There is no pickup, but I like that and regret putting one in my D18. Looking forward to recording with this. One note, the body is not coated in a thick clear coat like the more expensive models so it does make more noise if anything comes into contact with it, but on the flip side, it's incredibly light, and maybe that's a part of why the tone is so open. Note sure. Either way, in a blind test, I think this thing kills guitars 3 times the price.

While comparing it to the Taylor AD27, the D15m's description says the D15 is made in Mexico. Is this something new or just a not so centered Guitar Center description??
I believe it's always been a Mexican build.submitted3 years ago
