Bad Cat

collapse expand iconDescription

The Bad Cat Cub 1x12 30W tube guitar combo amp is an enhanced iteration of the boutique classic. The Cub has been used on countless stages and recording sessions—its original circuitry was simple, yet extremely versatile, offering punch and chime. The Cub 1x12 30W combo is a single-channel amplifier with two distinct gain modes: Clean and Overdrive.

The original Cub circuitry has been further developed and is accessed in the Clean mode—go from bright, chiming, classic cleans to smooth, touch-responsive edge of breakup. Switch the front-panel toggle to Overdrive mode to engage an additional tube gain stage for more harmonic content and complexity. The Cub combo also offers two switchable, independent master volume controls that can be preset for lead and rhythm volumes. It also includes a powerful midrange control, studio-quality reverb and a fully buffered effects loop.

I've had this amp for a few months now and couldn't be more impressed! It's astonishingly versatile, and just as importantly, it's super easy to dial in the sound you're going for. Funk, clean, blues, jazz, alternative and hard rock/punk. Super loud but also excels at true bedroom volumes.

I have had this amp for a while now, and after multiple gigs and recording sessions this amp is tough to beat. 30 watts is perfect for pedal use, as well as stage use. The dual Master volumes is great as a built in solo boost, or set the level low for a kill switch when on breaks between sets. The clean headroom is perfect, and the overdrive channel sounds excellent. You could easily get through a cover gig with just this amp. It doesn't do high gain, but that's the only minor setback.

I mostly use this product for a solo instrumental looper pedal gig. I set the amp clean and use pedals for gain, effects, etc. At 30 watts, it is the PERFECT size for any size stage. This amp is very loud, but with two master volumes, it can be scaled to any room.
