Decent Mini Amp
For the size and what it is intended for, this is a really great option. The build quality is decent, more plastic than metal. For such a small amp, it packs quite the options for adjustment in the sound quality department. The previous small amp I cam from did not offer nearly as many options, it lacked range. This Blackstar amp provides more than enough real adjustment options, don't let those small dials fool you. I bought this primarily because I needed something small for apartment living, my neighbors hate instrument noise. This amp almost perfectly hits the bill there, as it allows me to hear what I am doing without being disruptive. The amp also can be used as an MP3 speaker with an aux cord, and if I am not mistaken, Bluetooth as well. My wife loves that feature for podcasts, or me with cooking dinner, a nice bonus feature for sure. The main offender, despite this being used for quite jamming sessions, would be the volume output. You have to really ride the maximum setting on the volume to get it to really pick up during the daytime hours. This isn't a dealbreaker per-say but it is unfortunate as it means I will have to eventually upgrade to a larger amp to compensate where this one falls short. Otherwise, it's a solid amp for the price! If you jam out in an apartment like me, this is great as you get closer to and pass quiet hours.

Too much background noise
I got one as soon as one was available as a demo, excited to use for practice when i had to keep the volume really low. Well, you pretty much have to keep the gain below 5 and volume around 2-3. Go above that and you get a very annoying hiss and background noise. It's good for only at extremely low volumes, and then you can't really feel any kick at all.

WAY too much interference - No shielding

This amp is just awful. It has no shielding from other electronic interference. Get it near any other amps, guitars, even a cell phone and it can't help but give you very bad feedback. It's portable that is literally the only thing it has going for it. If you wanted to quietly play your guitar in a closet or a car, this would work for you, but having it out where others can hear it is embarrassing. I've tried four different bass guitars on this, multiple cables, different locations, even took it outside. The interference and scratchiness make this basically a toy for kids to practice on. I really regret buying this.

Not terribly impressed

I was a bit disappointed in the bass mini amp. I expected a louder sound without having to turn the gain way up.
Small but Effective

You can't expect too much bass from a 3" speaker, but at close range and in a small setting it is quite effective.
Impressive for such a small amp

Pros: Surprisingly good bass response for such a small speaker (including on the low B of a 5-string). At 50-60% volume, it can keep up with a drummer and several unplugged acoustic guitars. Cons: the tone's OK, but not as good as what you'd get from a regular amp. It's better at lower volumes and gets grainy if you turn up the volume up past 80% or so. Overall, I'd recommend for outdoor jams / travel

Is this bass amp battery powered, or capable of being battery powered. I have a gig where there's no power and they're operating with a battery-powered p.a., but not with enough inputs to include my bass. So I'm looking for a battery operated small bass unit - mostly to rent, if possible, but to buy if the price is reasonable AND it's battery powered.

In the pics it shows a 1/4" Input. Can you confirm that this is the case? I believe I saw a review of this product on another site that said they had changed the Input to 1/8", which I'm guessing means 3.5mm.
The instrument cable input is still 1/4" on this model. The instrument cable input is still 1/4" on this model.submitted5 years ago

Since it said that batteries were optional, I expected that there would be a cord with it but there was not. Was there supposed to be? It didn't even have it listed as something that is often purchased with the amp.
The cable is sold separately. give us a call at 866-498-7882 and we can help you find the right AC adapter.submitted6 years ago
