Ibanez

collapse expand iconDescription

With the growing popularity of the Iron Label series, Ibanez continues to tap into the molten metal underworld for inspiration. Reworking their famous RG body shape from the chassis on up, the Ibanez RGIB21 has been designed to add some dark, dramatic flair to the brand’s no-frills, “made-for-metal” lineup. The striking Ibanez Baritone 6-string RGIB21 brings an air of mystery to the Iron Label line.

The RGIB21 features a 28” scale, which provides full, rich tone and solid intonation. The combination of the Indian rosewood fingerboard and the legendary super-thin, ultraplayable Nitro Baritone neck provides a smooth, dense playing surface that produces a tight low end with quick response. Luminescent side dot inlays will help guide you as you move around the stage. Electronics include the EMG 60 pickup for a classic-thick, buttery tone, and the searing high end of an EMG 81 for fluid sustain and superior articulation.

The Gibraltar Standard II bridge meshes with the guitar’s body to provide the optimal transfer of each string’s vibration. Additionally, Gotoh locking tuners provide accurate tuning and allow for quick, efficient string changing.

This is a good starter guitar as baritone go, but has some visual flaws. The high b slot at the nut was cut too deep and had been filled with glue at the factory. The finish also has a spot that could use some work. The pickups are not screwed in straight and the height can't be adjusted. There is also some fret buzz on the low b. Beyond that it plays well and has some great premium appointments. In all, the issues are mostly visual, but this is, to me, the very bare minimum of what a baritone needs in terms of features. It's a value-buy in a type of instrument that is generally more expensive, so the price does not translate to quality in the same way as a standard electric. I would say subtracting maybe a quarter or so if the price would give you a better idea apples-to-apples. 7/10

This guitar rules! This is the guitar you need if you wanna lune lower than A but you don't want to sacrifice tone or switch to a 7 string. I currently have this is Drop G tuning and it is soooo comfortable. Only thing I wish it had was better pickups, but the emgs still sound great!

Considering this guitar. I've heard that it has a lot of neck. Is the neck thickness pretty thick compared to other guitars you've played? I've looked at some specs it does seem to be thicker than some but what's your honest opinion about the thickness of the neck and how it feels playing around on it?
