Open Box Phil Jones Bass BP-800 800W Bass Amp Head Level 1

It's a very light-weight, powerful and efficient amp. Virtually noiseless at full volume (plugged into guitar with strings muted, gutiar volume wide open, active pickups). It's easy to use and you can pound the heck out of it with it barely getting warm. It's amazing that it PJB got so much into such a tiny, light-weight and easy to carry package. It's as close as you presently get to a wire with gain. I haven't performed with it yet but it should be good excellent venues where you need real power. There are a couple of details that keeps from giving a 5 star rating. The first is at low volume levels it has an annoying buzz harmonically related to the note(s) being played (sounds like crossover/notch distortion and only present when there is signal). It's particularly noticable when playing harmonics quietly. At high volumes it's ok. This may be a consequence of it being class G or maybe just a design trade-off. But regardless, this is not inexpensive gear, it should not do this. The second detail is that it doesn't seem to work particularly well with piezo pickups (specifically on an NS electric upright) and is very bass shy. You can dial in extra bass but then it mostly loses the upright sound of the NS. WIth Fender and Ibanez basses it works fine (passive and active). If the problems I have cited were addressed and it proves to be reliable, it would be a completely untouchable solid-state amp.
