Remo

collapse expand iconDescription

The Remo Mondo Djembes are key-tuned and fitted with Skyn Deep heads. These hand drums produce a satisfying range of sounds from high slaps to deep bass tones. The durable, lightweight Acousticon shell delivers excellent projection and is unaffected by weather conditions. A heavy-duty rubber bottom protects the shell from ground impact. The exterior shells provide great visuals that match the graphics on the head.

Originally from West Africa, the djembe drum has spread around the world to become the hallmark instrument of the world-beat movement. Since at least 500 AD, the djembe drum has been used in healing ceremonies, rites of passage, ancestor worship, warrior rituals, and social dancing. Find out how much your hands can say with this traditional hand drum. Remo's revolutionary materials provide great sound, durability, and looks.

-Pros- + Aesthetically pleasing drum in both looks and sound. Outside hull is light weight, VERY durable, and ready for any weather condition. Skyn Deep drum head is ULTRA tough, and has taken a beating... along with spills, drops, and outside conditions. Very reliable when maintained... and priced RIGHT. + This drum hangs with every brand out there, and performs like a champion. Outside rim tones cut right through.. while a nice "Higher" pitch bass (compared to a solid piece of wood, or a bigger drum) flows right in. Very friendly and Easy to play. + Primary use is professional acoustic gigs, percussion lessons, music fests, drum circles and Worship. Solo acts, and playing percussion with a band(s). -Cons- - Not to nitpick, but I did notice that Leon Mobley does NOT play this exact drum. Which is understandable... His looks like a 14 inch with the Andinkra print. Possibly a Designer still or a Infinity Mondo. - Regular maintenance needs performed on the brackets monthly. Oil/Grease, dirt, sand, and dust will get gunked up in the tuning brackets when used on a regular basis. - The 12 inch head works well, but as one will progress the head will seem too small... This is purely opinion. Limited space on the head caused me to sometimes hit my own hands, along with limited tone for what I am looking for at the time. - When tuned very high, there is a slight "Ring" that you can hear. Which is typical to most non traditional djembe. -Conclusion- Wonderful beginniers drum. The 12 inch head is great for just starting players, and will be easy for one to get technique down. Its light, and fairly compact... certainly gets the job done. Have been happy with it through the years, and would suggest it to any Casual player, or someone who wants to learn !

Love my new djembe. Looks beautiful and sounds great. Very easy to play as well. Sounds amazing amplified with a mic. Just don't expect it to sound anything like a real African djembe- this is a totally different instrument in my opinion. Great for performing with a band, as it has deep bass and high slap sounds- almost like a drum kit. Highly recommended!

I love this Djembe, has a wonderful tone and a nice range. I would not normally purchase a drum online, would prefer to hear its voice first, but since this one was tunable took the chance. The flame art on the outside and on the drumhead is beautiful as well. I'm glad I took the chance & highly recommend the drum.

This drum far exceeded my expectations. It is very responsive with great highs and low slaps. I have thoroughly enjoyed the various tones of the drum. Previously, I had tried several different brands but always came back to the REMO which has the quality feel I was searching for along with the tonal values. Quite a user friendly instrument. I could NOT be happier with my choice ! Easily rated 5 stars.
