The bass is ok. Action was super high with some buzzing. I was able to tune it fine, but once I went to change the strings, I realized two of the tuners were badly stamped and would not turn more than half a turn. Currently waiting to see if they can be replaced under Sterling warranty

This is a really good bass! I like the roasted maple neck. It looks like rosewood. The fret marker dots are almost invisible, but I like that. I have never been one for active pick ups (I have a constant anxiety about the battery going dead, but that is a me problem). Otherwise, the pickup sounds great! The bass itself is heavy (12 pounds) and sustains well. There are not any quality control issues with it, and the playing is smooth. The Stingray 34 is an excellent instrument. I would buy it again.

The guitar is high quality and I like the weight, neck, balance, and the way the wood vibrates and gives feedback. I like this much better than a Fender bass with an alder body. I play in church and the preamp is really helpful when going through the sound system.

So I've only been playing bass for about 3 years (recovering guitarist) and I won't claim to know everything about every bass, or even everything about the basses I own. But this thing is pretty awesome. I can easily say that it's my favorite at the moment. For comparison, I have a MIM Fender J that I dropped Custom '60s PUs in. I have an American Elite Precision (one of the PJ configs from 2 years ago), an SR2405 Ibanez 5-string with angular pups, and a Ibanez 705f fretless (bartolinis). This plays fast and feels good in my hands. I have short stubby fingers and this wider neck does require a little more stretch, but it's so fun to play, I don't care. The tone is spot on too. Big fat bass, beefy upper mids, and trebles that are insane. Even dialed all the way down they're still there in the background. This makes me want to pop & slap and I don't really pop and slap. So pleased with this purchase!

If you want a stringray but don't want to pay 2k+ this is the bass for you. Sounds great, neck and fretwork are fantastic. What's not to love?! Well I'll tell you. The neck is way darker than in the stock photos. I've come across 3 or 4 of these basses over the last year and all the necks are really dark, almost like it's rosewood. One of the other reviewers on here has pictures posted and that's the true color of the neck. So as long as your cool with that...Get this bass. You won't regret it

I love this bass. I am a big music man fan and the Sterling stuff is great as well. I will be buying another bass in the future and it will likely be another sterling. If you want the music man feel without the price tag get one of these
