collapse expand iconDescription

The SL88 Grand uses the best graded hammer action keybed with Ivory Touch and wooden keys, to give you the natural feel of a well-balanced grand piano. Each of the keys provides three contacts for superior performance. The results of this combination are simply amazing. From the slightest pianissimo up to the strongest fortissimo, the keys translate every nuance of your performance in an inspiring and truly superb way.

Form and Performance
With its compact profile, the SL88 Grand is an extremely portable professional controller. Even with its high-end graded hammer action / wooden keyboard, it weighs less than 21 kilograms. The SL88 Grand is studio and stage ready with a rugged full metal casing. Sculptured endcaps made of a highly resistant synthetic material help to shield the premium TP40 wood keybed perfectly and provide a safe grip when handling and transporting.

Access with Ease
Located in the center of the instrument is a razor-sharp TFT color display. In combination with the high quality six-way controller knob, you can navigate through all SL88 Grand functions fast and with ease. Functions such as switching through the four zones are achieved by moving the controller, and then by clicking and turning the same knob again, you can select and adjust the desired parameter. Simple, intuitive and fast! Additionally, the three pushbuttons to the right of the control knob bring you back to the top-level from any location in the system with just one push.

Control
The SL88 Grand offers three X/Y stick controllers, not just for performance but also for direct control and manipulation of any desired sound parameter. Stick one is spring-loaded for both X/Y directions. The typical use for this stick is pitch and modulation control. Stick 2 is spring-loaded in X direction only. Stick 3 is free in X and Y directions, ideal for panning, cross fading and parameter control. All sticks feature an elegant, aluminum control shaft which feels perfectly balanced and expressive between your fingertips.

Setup with Software
The powerful new software editor helps you to easily setup your virtual keyboard rig. Mirroring the basic functional scheme of the SL operating system, its clear and ergonomic user interface makes creating and editing Splits and Layers a quick and easy job.

SL88 Grand used to midi a synth and organ. Working well. Can't believe the tactile feel that is just like a baby grand.

  • The best weighted 88 controller you can buy, hands down.

I'm a pianist. I finally found the right weighted action and feel for a keyboard controller.

  • Still has MIDI data output problems dating back to 2008

I got rid of my old StudioLogic controller that I had back from 2007-2010 because it had a known problem that the company just wouldn't fix: the modwheel constantly sent MIDI data out on CC1. It wouldn't stop. I had hoped that now, 12 years later, and buying a more expensive model, that the MIDI problem would've stopped - but no. Now, absent a modwheel, the expression pedal inputs are constantly adjusting MIDI data. Same happening for a friend with the identical keyboard. Happens with both pedal input options, regardless of pedal brand or type. Park the pedal at any value from 0-127, say at 60 -- and in your recording or MIDI input window you'll see a constant flow of data 60-61-60-61-60-61-60-61. And it's not the pedal: it's the keyboard. If you plan on using this as a MIDI controller, be forewarned, and go with a different brand.

I was looking for a controller that could emulate the feel of a real piano, after much research, there was the Sl88 Grand and Kawai VPC1 as both had actual woods in the keys. I chose the Sl88 because of price. The action is fantastic, it's heavy like a real piano but not overly so. It's important to adjust the velocity curves, the stock curves are fine but if you are going to do a song like Billy Joel's Angry Young man you need to adjust the curve so that you can repeat the notes, you can't do it with the stock curves. Use a blank preset to demo the controller, some of the stock presets are set up for multiple zones and you will get some weird stuff happening !

This is a midi controller keyboard. I got it for the piano-like keyboard action. I'm using it with Spectrasonics Keyscape. The Fatar-built keyboard is marvelous. Very piano-like. I feel like I'm sitting at a real piano at times. Perfect keyboard for me and my situation.

I'm looking for the Studiologic SL88 GT Mk2 — the one with MIDI 2.0. Do you have a product page for that iteration yet?

    Hello,
I'm planning on getting the studiologic sl88 grand. I'd like to know before I buy what happens if it arrives to me damaged, your return policy doesn't seem to mention that. I'd also like to know if I order it to a guitar center local to me if I am able to open it in store to at least look at it?
Thanks in advance for your help, Brandon

We have a 45 day return policy unless the item details state otherwise. And yes you can have it shipped to the store and check it out. If it's damaged or even if you just don't like it you can return it right then and there.
