collapse expand iconDescription

The PRS HDRX 20 20W guitar amp head, a reimagined classic rock amp with circuitry approved by Jimi Hendrix himself. In 2018, Paul Reed Smith and PRS Amp Designer Doug Sewell were granted access to study one of Hendrix's personal amps from Woodstock. They meticulously recreated its circuitry to develop the PRS HDRX series, capturing the flexibility, power and balance of 1960s British rock tone. The PRS HDRX 20 features two 5881 power tubes for thick, articulate tone that breaks up beautifully at lower volumes, ideal for any venue. With a 3-band TMB tone stack, 2-way bright switch, high-mid gain switch and presence control, dialing in your perfect tone is a breeze. The PRS HDRX 20's internally bridged channels have individual treble and bass volume controls, eliminating the need for a jumper cable and allowing you to blend lead and bass channels for your ideal level of distortion. A new master volume control provides tonal versatility without needing an attenuator.

Authentic Hendrix Circuitry Approved by the Master Himself

The PRS HDRX 20 features circuitry based on Paul Reed Smith and Doug Sewell's in-depth study of Jimi Hendrix's personal amplifier from Woodstock. Meticulously recreated to capture the full power and nuance of 1960s British rock tone, the HDRX 20 produces clear, articulate highs; thick, driving mids; and tight, controlled lows for a balanced sound that shines on stage. With a nod to Hendrix's experimental nature, the HDRX 20 gives you full control of your tone via a versatile feature set.

Versatile Tone Controls and Switchable Brightness

Shape your tone with a 3-band TMB tone stack, 2-way bright switch, high-mid gain switch and presence control. The tone stack provides tight control of treble, midrange and bass frequencies. Engauge the bright switch for clarity or disengauge it for a warmer, fuller tone. Boost the gain in the midrange for a throaty, overdriven sound or cut it for a cleaner tone. Dial in the perfect amount of high-frequency presence to suit your guitar and playing style. With this combination of tone-shaping tools, you can craft a sound that's all your own.

Internally Bridged Channels With Individual Volume Controls

The HDRX 20 features internally bridged channels with independent treble and bass volume controls, eliminating the need for an external jumper cable. Blend the lead and bass channels to your desired level of distortion and overdrive. Keep the bass channel clean while pushing the lead channel into saturation, or overdrive both channels for a huge, harmonically rich tone. The individual volume controls give you precise control over the balance of frequencies in your sound.

New Master Volume Control Provides Maximum Versatility

A new master volume control on the HDRX 20 allows you to achieve cranked-amp tone at lower volumes without needing an external attenuator. Drive the preamp and power tubes into overdrive while keeping the master volume low for recording or small venues. The master volume gives you full command of the power amp section, enabling you to go from sparkling cleans to roaring overdrive at the twist of a single knob. Experience the full range of the HDRX 20's tone-shaping capabilities without sacrificing versatility or volume control.

Follow the provided suggested settings to get a feel for what you have. Keep the master volume low as you experiment with the split treble and bass masters. (Read up and see how this internal fiction works.) Can get clean Marshall push and then gnarly twisted depending on your needs.

Great amplifier, great build. Apparently I didn't know what a Plexi, let alone Hendrix's, sounds like. The one star off is merely to alert purchasers that this isn't great sounding Marshall alternative, but rather a great sounding SPECIFIC MODEL clone.

This amp is incredible it sounds fantastic. Vintage Marshall Plexi tones at any volume. I cannot believe how good this amp sounds and feels playing it. My other amp is a Dr Z Z-28MK11 Combo and it is an awesome sounding amp as well. This HDRX hangs right up there with it. The Z is one of the best amps I have ever purchased and I will say the HDRX is also one of the best as well. Both these amps use 5881 power tubes. Don't let the price tag fool you this amp sounds like it should cost way more then it does. I know its made over seas so that's why but still its got the tone that anyone who has owned a Marshall Plexi knows how its suppose to sound and this amp just blew me away. Plus it has that master volume so you can play at home and dial it in to get those great tones at reasonable volumes. I been going back to back with both these amps and they are like neck and neck. The HDRX is all the Plexi I will ever need. It takes pedals extremely well it loves fuzz and boost and overdrive everything sounds great through it. Its super lightweight. But it packs a mean punch. It has exceeded my expectations. I have had many high end Fenders ,Marshalls, Mesa Boogies and Dr Z amps as well as some other boutique amps and this HDRX is right up there with them as far as tone goes. It sounds amazing. Beautiful Hendrix cleans nice warm crunch. My wah-vibe-octave-fuzz -boost-overdrive-delay all sound killer through it. I usually set it up clean and use my pedals Its very articulate and has a great touch response and feel too it like a much more expensive boutique amp. The only negative thing is the cab and head are so lightweight that when you play at super loud levels the head shifts on the cab it moves from the vibration. I got the matching cab with it. This is by far one of the best Plexi sounding amps I have ever purchased. Plus the deal I got on it was unreal. Thank to Dave at GC in La Mesa CA!

Thank you, Nick at SxFlls Guitar Center! Having told me that he has heard nothing but good things about this amp, I ordered it on the spot. upon receiving, I noticed the quality of build. With a humbucker in the neck position Tele, I immediately dialed in a gorgeous lush attack.. Rolled back the volume, and amplifier responded with a delicious and spacious rhythm tone. Single coil bridge pickup kicked in a spank and yet round full on Tele attack. But the middle position, it was so full of bottom end beef and top end sparkle, thanks to the amps internally bridged channels. For a 20 watt amp, this thing has tons of headroom, and can fill any stage, anywhere. Thank you, Nick. Thank you Guitar Center, and thank you Paul Reed Smith. This a beast of an amp in a small(ish) frame and a great price point for what is delivered in quality and pure TONE.

Ohmage makes no difference in sound. It will affect wattage.
