For The Love of The Guitar: Mark Tremonti's #myPRS Story | PRS Guitars

Description
The PRS MT 15 is a commanding two-channel amp with balanced aggression and articulation. Powered by 6L6 tubes, the MT 15 has a large, bold sound, so you can dig in heavy with rhythms but also get singing lead tones out of one amp. Whether recording, practicing, writing or playing a small room, this amp has everything you need.
Five Gain Stages Provide Lush Distortion
Like the PRS Archon amplifier, the MT 15 features a single lead channel with bass, mid, treble, and gain knobs to produce lush distortion. The Lead channel gets big, chunky tone with massive, tight low end, never losing its articulate note definition or great lead tone.
Clean Channel Perfect for Chords and Fingerstyle
The clean channel is bright and chimey, ideal for chords and fingerstyle playing – whether with a pick or not. The clean channel also features a push/pull boost control that adds a little overdrive for old school crunch.
Half-Power Switch Provides Added Versatility
Despite its 15 watts, the MT 15 sounds more like 50W, so a half-power switch that takes the MT to 7 watts is a welcome edition. Bottom line, the amount of features, the hugeness of the sound, and the raw horsepower of the circuit make the MT 15 an impressive lunchbox hero.

Versatile Amp Head
I picked this up to use predominantly as a low wattage gigging head. I've since found myself using it for almost everything. PRS doesn't load a bunch of features into this amp. It is simply a guitar amp which is why it's as good as it is. This is a two channel footswitchable (included) amp. It has no effects or reverb. The clean channel is one of the best and most usable clean channels I have played on. It has its on eq and a treble boost. It would probably make a great pedal platform but I prefer to use it simply as a clean. The dirty channel can deliver anything you ask it to from classic 70's to modern metal. It has more gain available than anyone probably needs. If you know how to use the volume knob on your guitar you will find this amp to be very responsive. I keep the gain at about 10 o'clock and dual in what I need with the volume knob on my guitar. Both channels play extremely well with pedals. I've had the best results using the effects loop for time based and modulation type effects. Frequency and drive work great through the front end. I waited to review this until I got some rehearsals and gigs under its wings. This thing is built like a tank and travels quite well. For rehearsals I run it through a 4/12 with equipped with Celestion 70/80s. It's more than loud enough to get over a live drummer. It sounds louder than a 50 watt head I was using for rehearsals. Live I run it through a 2/12 and mic the cabinet with a 57. It sounds great and is very consistent. It's convenient size, durability, and overall sound have resulted in it becoming the first head I reach for in almost every situation now. This is a really great practical amp for any performing guitarist.

Dark and harsh
I use an Archon100, love it. Wanted a backup. Tried this with a 212 Orange ppc, that's what I us. I play various types of metal. I use a few different types of boosts and drives. I used a standard Ibanez from the rack, probably quantum pickups. I found it immediately too dark. Once I got the gain to be more present, it just sounded harsh. It got loud fast, not much room for low volume practice. There is so much gain it's silly. As for gain grain, some amps have sandy, gravel, and rocks. I like gravel. This is like rocks that have been smashed and there are jagged pieces everywhere, but in spandex. I turned down the gain and kicked on a Grid Slammer but it didn't help at all. I was hoping for a baby Archon but it's very different.I did not care for it at all.

Had it shipped to my local GC and picked it up today. Got home, plugged it into the matching MT 1x12 and absolutely no gain/distortion to be had. Plenty of harsh noise though! I'm assuming there's a bad preamp tube preventing the gain staging from working right. And while that's certainly something I can fix myself I kind of like my new gear to work without any fuss so it's back to GC we go. Really bummed as I had done a ton of research on this amp and loved the tones people were getting from it. We'll see if GC can make it right but so far not a good look for my very first piece of PRS gear. P.S.: Website description also says it comes with an amp cover but there wasn't one in the box.
A great guitar amp

I have been using this amp for about 6 months now. It has worked flawlessly through 4 months of weekly practice by two different bands at our practice space and two outdoor gigs in 90 to 100 degree heat in the Nashville area. Not a single hiccup or problem. I use the clean channel with pedals 90% of the time. The gain channel is brutal if you need that tone. It's not terribly loud, but that's a good thing for me as it allows you to crank it to get some tube fullness and Mike it if necessary. It sounds similar to a tweed fender with a stout bottom end and more clarity. It works with Tele Strat and Paul's.
Without a doubt well worth it

Not a bedroom playing amp. Crazy loud! Huge gain! Sounds like a beast. More like 50 watts. At low levels it's sounds poor. But turned up it can't be played in a bedroom. Had the cops called twice on me and I live in a house with decent amount of space between the homes. Best metal amp out.

Great sound with plenty of volume at rehearsal and will have to turn down when mic'd on stage thru a PA system.

Can I use this amp in the UK without a transformer? I see that it has multiple voltages on the back. Would I just use a different plug when traveling? Or is there a switch for 120v to 230v.
There isn't a switch, you would need an adapter.submitted7 years ago
