X1 Quick Start Guide with Fred Poole

X1 Sound Sampler

Description
Peavey's Vypyr X1 combo amplifier, available at , packs an impressive set of features into a portable 20-watt package. This multi-instrumental modeling amp is designed for electric, acoustic and bass guitars, providing a versatile solution for any guitarist. Featuring Peavey's acclaimed TransTube analog distortion technology, the Vypyr X1 delivers authentic tube-amp tone in a rugged, lightweight enclosure. This is an innovative amp with built-in stompbox effects, instrument models and more.
TransTube Technology Emulates Tube Tone
The Vypyr X1 is equipped with Peavey's exclusive TransTube technology, which emulates the warm distortion of tube amplifiers. This true analog distortion not only provides rich, natural overdrive, but also leaves the amp's digital processing power dedicated to effects. As a result, the Vypyr X1 can run up to five effects simultaneously without compromising tone. TransTube technology helps the Vypyr X1 cut through in live settings where other modeling amps fall short due to their poor digital distortion and limited EQ.
Variable Instrument Input Accommodates Any Guitar
Thanks to its advanced cabinet design and powerful onboard processing, the Vypyr X1 allows you to switch between electric, acoustic and bass guitars using the same amp. Whether recording at home or gigging on stage, the Vypyr X1 is a versatile solution for all your guitar needs.
Packed With 36 Amp Models and 12 Effects
The Vypyr X1 includes 36 amp models and 12 stompbox effects, providing an array of tones without requiring expensive individual pedals. Amp models include classic Fenders, Marshalls and Voxes, as well as modern high-gain amps. Effects include overdrive, distortion, chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, delay and reverb. With the touch of a button, you can transform the Vypyr X1 into the amplifier and effects setup of your dreams.
Simple, Intuitive Controls
Despite its powerful performance, the Vypyr X1 is designed to be simple to operate. Its WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) interface includes LEDs around each knob to indicate its position relative to the current preset, eliminating confusion when switching between amp models and effects. All features, including the built-in looper, can be accessed directly from the amp's front panel without connecting to external software. The Vypyr X1 gives you pro-level tone and flexibility in an amp that's as straightforward as it is capable.

I just jam at the house. It's a great for chugging some metal this amp is great for that. It gets loud pretty quick. I have a few amps but this one is its own beast. I would replace if something happened to it. Thank you.
Great little amp

I wanted a smaller Combo amp for the bedroom playing. I also have the Vypyr VIP 2 but it is a bit too loud. The good thing is I can still use the footswitch I bought for the VIP2 2 version on the X1. I mainly use it for coming up with riffs. easy plug and go amp.
VYPYR X1 is another really solid Peavey amplifier.

Peavey equipment was a mainstay where I grew up. I knew a lot of guys who started with and used T-15's, 30's and 60's. The region was full of Bandits, Backstages, Studio Pros, Rages, and Pacers. I gigged with a Peavey Renown 2x12 for a while. Peavey was American, inexpensive, well built, sounded good, could get loud, and was reliable. The Vypyr X 1 continues the Peavey line. I play both 4 string bass and 6 string guitar. This amplifier is useful for both of those instruments--and can be used to amplify acoustic guitar as well. That was why I was initially interested in this amplifier, I can play bass and guitar through the same amplifier and get good tones to practice with for both instruments without having to use two separate amplifiers. It is small to mid-sized, and very portable, but not merely a "bedroom" amplifier--it can get loud. It sounds good turned down, for either bass or guitar. You can get great bass tones out of it, and good volume for a single 8 inch speaker. There is easily enough room in the cabinet to mod, if you are into that. And adding a 1/8 or XLR out would not be too difficult, and it does have a headphone jack output. For guitar, you really can dial in a lot of good tones out of it--from crunch and chug high gain to jazzy high headroom clean and everything in between. It is really versatile, and does clean, dirty and high gain very well for a small, light amplifier. Peavey uses its Trans Tube in this amplifier--and Trans Tube really does sound good--it is not a gimmick. With an 8 inch speaker in a semi enclosed cabinet, it is not going to sound and feel like a wall of 4 x 12's, but can fill the room well enough--more than I thought it would. The controls are really simple and intuitive, and the LED's are easy to see. The manual is very easy to follow. The effects are nice to have, and add to and shape the sound, but were not the deciding factor for me. You can dial in great tones with no effects at all. It takes pedals fine, but I really do not use them through this, except for a foot controlled wah. I have tube amps, (Fender, Mesa Boogie), and love those, but a solid state modelling amp is perfect for practice, and this Peavey Vypyr X 1 fits the bill. It is well made too--as is every Peavey amplifier I have ever seen. I bought this for practice solo--but you could play with other musicians at reasonable volumes with it easily and still be heard. It is 20 watts with an 8 inch speaker, and boasts 30 watts RMS. If I were planning to gig with it, with a drum kit, and vocalist, I would get one of the two larger versions to push more air. But, for a portable small to mid sized amplifier--this is perfect. If it gets ripped off, I'll certainly buy another!

The X1 has a high pitch hum in the headphones that the X3 does not. nor did the previous version of the vypyr have this hum in the headphones. other than that the new vypyr X amps are great. I can hear an improvement in the sound when comparing them back to back, with the previous vypyr, and it is ezer for me to get a smooth lead sound in the vypyr X vs the previous version. I love these amps but if you want to record out of the headphone jack stay away from the x1. The X3 has more of a 3D sound due to the larger speaker as well.
Best amplifier for the money

Peavey just re-released the Vyper VIP, there is no quality improvement. Its repackaged but pretty much exactly the same. I traded in my almost 10 year old VIP2 for this and its the SAME. The response of the ALL digital preamps was of the same quality. No innovation. I think they will fall on there face with this one. I wanted something better that is why i am disappointed. The only real use is the clean channels and use good analog distortion preamps into it. There is the same exact digital noise bleed thru at the same high pitch frequency when you crank the gain of the modeled amps. This is how i know it is the EXACT SAME.
