Peavey

collapse expand iconDescription

The Vypyr X2 combo amp from Peavey is an evolution of the original Vypyr amp first introduced in 2008. Along with updated styling, improved TransTube technology and superior cabinet design and acoustic performance, the Peavey Vypyr X2 also features Bluetooth remote control and audio streaming in, allowing users to stream backing tracks intro the amplifier and control all settings via iOS or Android remote app control. Peavey's TransTube tech not only sounds better, it leaves the amp's processing power dedicated to the effects, which enables the Vypyr to run up to five effects simultaneously. Great for live playing, the Vypyr is designed to emulate real tubes and sits perfectly in the mix in a live environment. Plus, as presets change, the knobs on the amp change with them, providing an accurate overview of amp settings just by looking at the amp. With the Vypyr, the LEDs around the knob always indicate what position it is in relative to the current preset, eliminating confusion and unwanted recording outcomes.

  • This is one of the best amps you can buy for less than $300.

It is simple to use, but has all the great features and sound. I've owned several modeling amps and Peavey got this right. The analog distortion I think makes a big difference. Most digital modeling amps sound whiney on the high end this is just right.

I have bought and sold several amps over the past few years, and I think this one's the keeper. It reminds me a bit of the katana 50 in that it has lots of features - but it is far easier to figure out how to use. I wish it had a slightly smaller footprint, for portability's sake, but the sound and usability make up for it. I also wish manufacturers would provide more useful documentation, but there are lots of helpful videos on the web. From clean, to crunch, to filthy - and some Fender Vibratone if you like - this amp can do just about anything.

Never had a modeling amp and was a bit hesitant to jump in. I have always been a Marshall fan, which was another reason I was reluctant on making the purchase. As it turns out, I couldn't be happier! Great sounds, a ton of effects. A couple helpful suggestions - don't expect the preprogrammed sounds to be to your liking without doing some adjusting. You can always save your settings once you have it to your liking. TheI have found that I get the best sound by getting the amp off the floor and tilting it so it projects the sound toward your ears.- and move away from the amp 10 feet or so if possible. It is a very loud amp. I haven't had to turn the volume past 2 for bedroom use. You could easily gig with this amp. Awesome metal and hard rock tones - love it!

Could I use multiple effects at once with this amp? Like could I use this amp's phaser and delay together?

The Peavey Vypyr X2 40W Combo Amp allows you to use multiple effects at once, including combining phaser and delay within a single preset. The Vypyr X2 includes up to 5 simultaneous effects, covering modulation (chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo), delay, reverb, wah, compression, pitch shifts, and more In the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) control interface, you select an amp model and then a stompbox/effect, which can be chained with delay and reverb in the signal path.

Does this amp sound good with pedal boards? I'm currently using the Marshall Code 25 and it doesn't work well with them. I am wondering if this one does the same.
