Great Snare

I have to say that this snare is the best by far on pitch, sound, you name it.This snare tunes with ease unlike those acrylic snares, and guess what fellas, with this snare you get the same loud tight pitch on this snare, but this one is easier to tune, and more versatile cause of the maple shell, this snare is instant greatness,no need to mess with, dont need to change snares or heads, this thing is like buying a bmw or mercedes, its so nice you just leave it as is,this snare is the best buy!!!every cent worth plus more!

Just Don't Do It!

I've had this snare drum for years now, but never got around to reviewing it. First things first, I wouldn't recommend this snare drum. It looks great, it sounds decent, however it's too expensive for what you get. With an emperor coated head it's got a vibrant, overtone-y, sound with limited applications. This is due to all of the vents and the flanged hoops don't help tighten the mix either. I use an Evans Genera Dry head exclusively now and almost all of the unpleasant overtones and rings are cut. My main issue with the snare drum is the quality. Never in my life have I used such a poorly made product. Within the first month the tension rods would consistently come loose. They would fall out of the bottom and after every two songs I have to retune the batter head. I tried lock tight, but even that only goes so far. I said fine if it's just the tension rods, I can handle it. But no! The lugs started unscrewing as well! I had to take apart all of the hardware and apply lock tight to every screw. This appeased my problem, but I still have regular bump-ins. None of the vent holes are secured properly and the vent covers are all loose. Year after year I grow more and more tired. I can't bring myself to sell this snare because I don't want someone else to deal with this problem. The service at Pork Pie was lackluster. They said,"it's fine, just put some lock tight on it". The throw off is cheap, and I have to tighten it during a set quite often. I don't know why they still manufacture the Little Squealer line. Both their kit and snare all have these issues. I'd like to add I purchased this snare on sale and I STILL wouldn't recommend. I did a lot of research before I made the purchase, but I wish I knew the quality of the snare before. It's absolutely not worth it.

Out of the 6 snares I have this one is my favorite! I put a Evans Heavyweight head on it and tuned it tighter and its what I've been looking for! Highly suggest this.

  • Would be great if it stayed in tune

I picked this up as a backup snare and have played probably 30-40 gigs on it so far. You have to retune the thing after every song. You can HEAR the tension rods loosening as you play. I played last night only to discover that the rod where my backbeat lands is just gone now lol

  • I love this snare!

I bought this snare in hopes that it'd solve my snare issues...and it absolutely did. Great response and control. Not much reverb but it goes away with a dampening ring.

  • Still unsure on this one....like the product..but..

I do like the snare. But one of the lugs came detached after a couple of days. So of course I'm concerned this will happen again - after it's out of warranty.

  • Would buy

Tried a lot of snares. This is the best sound and made well. Been using it for 3 years as my main snare.

this snare has a wide range of tunings and with different heads definitly get different sounds. This will fit a lot of applications and bring out the best in the set.

How do the black hoops last over time? I do a lot of rimshots and would think the black would eventually start chipping off. I've always strayed away from painted hoops for that reason.

The rims on this are very durable. If they do chip it won't be for a long while of excessive abuse.
