Promark

collapse expand iconDescription

Promark Japanese white oak drum sticks are balanced and carefully crafted using hand-selected white oak. Grown in the mountainous regions of Japan, this particular species of oak is a harder wood than hickory and will take more wear, tear, and punishment. It resists chipping and wearing soft.

Made with Pro-Mark's exclusive Millennium II manufacturing process, each stick is hand-finished and hand-inspected. The result is a strength and durability no other stick can match.

Japanese Oak or Bust!

I've always been a big fan of pro-mark products. I use the nylon tipped 747 Rock sticks for most of my drumming needs. I had bought a set of the Japanese White Oak's and was very impressed, but when I went back to get more, all they had was American Hickory. I'm not a hard hitter, but the angle that I hit my hi-hats tend to chip and eat away my sticks. I broke three sets of the American Hickory sticks in one month, my Japanese Oaks have been going strong for 3-4 months. If you want a high quality stick that is not only going to last a long time, but sound great time and time again, go with the Japanese Oak.

After 10+ years using promark, I'm considering switching

I've been playing promark 5a oak nylon tips exclusively for maybe 15 years or so. Lately, I've noticed that they don't come "matched." That is to say, each stick has a slightly different fundamental pitch which in turn means rolls that don't sound as smooth as they could. For me, these are at a premium price point so the manufacturer should go through the effort of matching the pares. Isn't they why the come in sleeves of 2? Other than the tone matching issue, the sticks are great. The have a feel that I love. The oak is a little heavier than the hickory, which I like. Even with the increased weight of oak, I'm able to exercise good dynamic control. If you use push/pull or Moeller technique, your playing may benifit from the increased weight of oak. After using literally 1000's of pairs of these, I've only had the nylon tip fail once and those were well used sticks. The oak is stronger that hickory from a durability standpoint. The denser wood of oak also means a higher fundamental pitch, especially on cymbals. I hope that Promark gets themselves together with regards to the tone matching because otherwise, I've grown to really love these sticks for their feel and durability.

These sticks are slightly more flexible when when you play clean on the kit, and you can feel the harmonic difference when rolling through the toms. The balance of the stick is really only suitable for matched play, however. Jazz/marching tones on these sticks with the way their balanced, they feel completely different/unique to other wood tips I've played in the past, requiring me to adjust with future practice.

Professional musician for 4+ decades. Thrifty about spending a premium for sticks. Used a gift certificate to purchase a 3 pack of these oak sticks. Yes, they are pricier than most any other sticks; but found them to be what the other reviews have stated. These sticks can take a beating like no other wood stick I have tried in the past. Well worth the investment for the most basic of tools of a drummer.
