Description
Premium Birch Dowels for Enhanced Attack
Unlike typical drumsticks, the Lightning Rods utilize multiple birch dowels bundled together to produce a range of articulations. The seven large dowels provide more volume and cut through amplified mixes with ease. The dowels diameter of .530" offers a balance of rigidity and flexibility, creating a lively rebound and controllable response. The birch wood optimizes sustain and projection while keeping the weight manageable during extended playing. For drummers seeking more attack than standard rods without the volume of hickory sticks, the Lightning Rods are the ideal solution.
Smooth Grip and Tight Sound
Promark designed the Lightning Rods for playability and tone. The smooth grip allows for comfortable control and quick stick work around the entire kit. A unique wrap placed near the neck helps contain the dowels, resulting in a focused sound with minimal rattling. This design element also improves the durability of the sticks for consistent performance over long-term use. The Lightning Rods' optimized dimensions facilitate speed, accuracy and dynamic expression.
Versatile and Expressive
While standard drumsticks typically produce a single tone, the Lightning Rods open up a world of new sounds. Drummers can create textures ranging from articulate taps to crashing swells. The sticks excel in a variety of musical contexts, from jazz clubs to rock venues. However you play, the Lightning Rods will inspire new ideas and fuel your creativity.

Great for versatile players
The Lightning-Rod sticks are a great option for a drummer playing several styles of music. They are are more durable than the Hot-Rod sticks, so you can lay into the drums a little more without them breaking. However, they are thinner than the Thunder-Rod sticks, so you still get a better bundled stick sound. They are also the perfect size for a drummer used to playing 5A or 5B sticks.

I love these...but not for heavy hitters...
I absolutely love the feel of these bundled sticks...I play these plus the Hot Rods & Cool Rods when I want something other than sticks - and these are great! My only complaint is you never know how long they will last. I am a fairly consistent customer, but my last set lasted only 2 gigs. Be forewarned. Give these a try.

I use these during band practice to keep the noise down in our jam space. They soften the cymbals but have enough heft to be heard on hats. Depending on your regular sticks, they may be a bit harder to find the pivot point, but they will save your ears from the ping of the hats (partially).
A tip for making lighting rods last longer..................

Promark Lighting Rods are great for multiple styles of music. A tip for making them last longer on those heavy hits and cymbal crashes...... Wrap a couple of medium weight rubber bands tightly about 1-1/2 inches from the end. Not only does this keep the sticks from breaking, it also provides a nice way to do cymbal rolls that mimic using mallets. The rubber bands also eliminate the vibration that is felt from the individual rods and gives a more "solid stick" feel and response off the head. The rubber bands extend the life of the stick exponentially even during those heavy hitting sessions but beware, you will go through a lot of rubber bands but they are much cheaper than buying new sticks every week. The only con I have found is when playing the hi-hat. The rubber bands can act like a damper so you need to strike the hi-hat above or below the rubber bands to get that crisp hi-hat sound. I have been using the lighting rods for practice, rehearsals, and both live gigs and studio sessions for several years. Absolutely love them.
Great alternative to reg stix

I have a 3 piece band who practices in my basement. I also have a set of Zildjian Rock Cymbals. I love their sound, but practicing in a basement with them can get pretty harsh. I have found that these stix soften things up enough to fit better in the mix. I feel the best result is losing the sharp "ping" sound from my ride. I may try live someday, but for now, they are awesome for practicing.

Great for playing in a small practice area, or venue where you want to lower the drum volumn.
