collapse expand iconDescription

Radial Engineering's JDI MK3 is a professional-grade passive direct box equipped with a premium Jensen transformer, designed to capture instruments with pristine accuracy. The JDI MK3 is a nearly indestructible DI perfect for connecting electric guitars, basses, keyboards and more to recording interfaces, mixing consoles and PA systems.

Jensen Transformer Provides Optimal Isolation

At the heart of the JDI MK3 is a high-performance Jensen JT-DBE transformer that eliminates buzz, hum and ground loops. Its nickel core and low-permeability design remove phase distortion for a clean, transparent signal. The transformer fully isolates the input from the output, allowing high input levels without overloading connected equipment.

Extremely Low Distortion for Natural Tone

With near-zero phase and harmonic distortion, the JDI MK3 accurately captures the full tone of any instrument. Its frequency response is ruler-flat, preserving the natural highs, lows and everything in between. This high fidelity makes the JDI MK3 an excellent choice for both live and studio applications where maintaining tonal integrity is critical.

Built to Handle High Levels and Extreme Conditions

From its 14-gauge welded steel construction to its durable baked enamel finish, the JDI MK3 is built to survive. It withstands high input levels that would overload other DIs and its protective bookend design shields switches from damage. Inside, a locked skeletal frame protects sensitive components from external stress. This rugged dependability allows for worry-free use on stages and in abusive environments.

Maximum Flexibility for Any Setup

With input pad, polarity reverse and ground lift switches, the JDI MK3 adapts to any installation for optimal performance. Its input pad reduces the signal by 15dB to prevent overloading connected equipment, while the polarity reverse inverts pin 2 and 3 of the XLR output. The ground lift disconnects pin 1 to eliminate ground loops altogether. These features provide the flexibility to interface with virtually any audio system or instrument.

I decided on buying the JDI Radial over other high quality direct boxes. I made my choice on other reviews and demo's that I could find. Sweetwater's direct comparison of high end direct boxes is what convinced me that this is the box to get. The sound you get is crazy scary. I use the JDI passive direct box for my active Sting Ray Sterling by Music Man. Amazing quality and sound!

Used this to tame my EMG X-Series pickups with a 24-volt mod. It allows the full headroom of the pickups into my interface with utter clarity. In a word, perfection. I love how rugged and well built this is, and I plan on keeping it forever.

After hooking a keyboard into the main house system I noticed it sounded harsh, like something stayed maxed out in the signal line somewhere. I changed the DI to one of these units and the better quality Jensen transformer really makes a difference. Very pricy, hence only 4 stars. But if sound clarity and tone are essential in performances then it's well worth the price for high output instruments/signals.

I first purchased a J48 Active Direct Box to use with my two basses with active equalizers. I was so happy with the J48, I purchased a JDI to use with my two passive basses. Wow! Nothing negative about this unit and everything positive. The sound out of the PA is exactly the same as what came out of the amp. You can pay less for a lot less. Or, pay a little more and get the best.

We compared this DI to others in a studio setting mostly with electric bass and found that this blew all the others away. The bass frequencies came through more focused, in phase, quiet and full. Just beautiful, built like a tank. Don't waste your money on a cheap DI. I own one. I bought several of the active and passive versions for our studio.

The Radial JDI gives me tremendous clarity with my acoustic guitar. The difference between a DI and the Radial JDI is so obvious to your ears. (OK, the price difference is so obvious to your wallet). Anyways, if you have a decent guitar and you want it to come out of the PA with no loss in sound quality then you have to go with this. You can really hear the difference.
