J Rockett Archer Ikon

J.Rockett Audio Designs

collapse expand iconDescription

The Archer Ikon from J. Rockett Audio Designs is sort of a two-in-one guitar pedal. It can be used as just a clean boost by turning the gain all the way down. As you introduce gain, it will attenuate the clean signal, but there is a magical blend in between that you will find.

After owning all of the more popular Klones out there (Soul Food, Sugar Drive, Conspiracy Theory, Tumnus, Archer), I thought that I'd give the Ikon a try. Although it is sort of similar to the regular Archer pedal, the Ikon is a bitter darker, or warmer as they say, and didn't quite give me the Klon-type punch that I was looking for. The regular silver Archer is the best of the best, in my opinion. It's got the right amount of gain, and the right amount of punch. Some of the other Klones are great as well, and each has its own distinct flavor, including the Ikon, but the silver Archer is the only one that I ended up keeping.

This pedal is modeled after the Klon Centaur, and is phenomenal. Very happy. It's tone and effect brought me to tears.

This is a quality pedal but I prefer the Wampler Tumnus which I find to be more transparent. Using the pedal with Victoria Amp. I think it will depend on the amp it is used with.

For many years I've used the King of Tone with various booster pedals AND to boost others. Love the tone and so does the audience. I swore I'd never take it off my pedalboard. Then I tried the IKON. This is the only pedal that could even be considered in the same class, tone-wise. The sound coloration is perfect, the ability to boost or be boosted is terrific, the ability to dial in just that perfect amount of grind is rivaled only by KOT, and it's ability to respond to guitar roll-off is just superb. KOT needs to be run at 18V to best the IKON as a booster pedal. For now, they'll live side-by-side on my pedalboard. Like KOT, IKON is excellent for everything but very heavy distortion. You'll need a separate pedal for that, but I can attest that it is a great booster pedal for a distortion box.
