Great versatile string

This is a great overall string. The round core gives more pliability to typical flat wound tension and the monel provides that soft nickel feel on the outer wrapping. Additionally, the monel will settle to its consistent sound in a very short break-in period, about 5-7 hours of play. I wouldn't advise purchasing them if there is a lot of slap bass work in your life, unless you are looking for that early Larry Graham particular sound. These are strings that will handle any other style of playing with ease, flexibility and consistent sound for years. Plus, if you're using fender basses, this .40, .60, .80 & 1.00 gauge is one of few manufacturers that produce the gauges fender sends their basses from the factory. From Carole Kay & James Jamerson to Cliff Williams & Roger Waters; From Paul McCartney to Larry Graham & Sting to Dusty Hill, these strings will deliver the warm focus that have become foundational standards for decades. When it comes to P style basses, I have never found a more consistent, versatile & reliable string that not only provides the sound and feel appropriate for many applications, but a string that the bass itself seems to resonate and respond to more than any other string. Do your bass, hands and sound a great service.

I've been used various gauges of these Rotosound flat-wound strings for umpteen years..nice full tone but not too bright, they don't wear my frets down like round-wounds, and best of all they are easy on the fingers.
Extremely Playable

The most important ting with strings is that they should be playable, and in that sense these strings do not disappoint. They definitely have a flatwound sound that is good for rock, though that is in part because they are not super smooth, you will still catch a bit of finger-noise with them.
